4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We stayed on the Fourth of July. They were recommended by another hotel in Bryson City which was full at the later hour. The manager let us in as the doors are locked at later hours and gave us a reduced rate. We stayed on the second floor and there was plenty of parking. The room was smaller with 2 double beds, but adequate for sleeping purposes. The inn does not have an elevator, so you must be able to climb stairs with luggage in tow. There was a mini mart up the street for late night munchies. The inn was quiet and while small, was comfortable and the desk staff was very hospitable. We found the room clean. While we did not use it, we were told there was a pool in the building next door that was part of this inn complex. Smokers do stand at their doorways and smoke causing the other guests to have to walk through the stench, but the inn really can't do much about that. The breakfast buffet was good, but only tea, coffee, and water are included. Juice and milk can be purchased for an extra charge. The wait staff seemed short handed and our waitress could have had a more pleasant personality. I would visit this inn again when traveling through the Cherokee area.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor if you have trouble with stairs or you have a lot of luggage. Also ask to be...

We booked this room since it seemed like a nice hotel for the price. The room itself was very clean. It was disappointing that the whirlpool was not working when we stayed. The pool looked clean. We were glad we got a free hot breakfast. It was a buffet style with a fairly good selection. The only complaint was the service in the restaurant. They were very understaffed. The hostess seated us at a table where people had already been seated so we had to move. The waiter never refilled our drinks and we asked him for ketchup, which he forgot probably because he was too busy waiting on so many tables at once. Overall, it was a good location and a decent price but the restuarant service was lacking.

Room Tip: If you have problems climbing stairs you may want to confirm your room is ground level, near the poo...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

June, 2012.
Exterior entry to a room. Exterior wall is a large window over the a/c unit. Table and 2 upholstered chairs next to the a/c unit. Flat screen TV on a 3 drawer storage facing the beds. In the back: open area with wide counter sink and metal clothes hanging rack, and a side room with toilet and tub behind a door. The inn consists of 3 levels up a hillside. Spacious lobby, breakfast room and meeting rooms at the lowest level building with outdoor pool behind the building. The 2 upper levels are 2 separate buildings. The middle level is a 2 story building with rooms, guest laundry, parking and an access to the outdoor pool. The top level has rooms and an indoor pool; and parking. Walking to the top level building using the exterior stairs may be too steep for some people.
Although it is an older facility, my room, the grounds, parking lot, and exterior surfaces of the building were clean and well-kept. No blistering paint. No rust. No weeds. No overnight trash seen when I went to breakfast.
Included breakfast was scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, a variety of breakfast potato choices, biscuits, chip beef and white gravy, sasuage links, grits. A pot of coffee or cups of tea served at the table are included in the breakfast, but juice is an additional charge.
It is near the junction of routes 19 and 441 (Some information web sites have maps in error). Taking into consideration all the things to see and do in the area, this is a good home base location.

Room Tip: Study the room map. If you have childern who require lots of pool time for outdoor pool choose pool...

We took a motorcycle trip from Florida to Boston this was one of our stops along the way. The Chestnut Tree Inn is a great hotel at a great price. Unfortunately the onsite restaurant and pool were both closed because it was too early in the season so I cannot comment on those. The room was very clean. Comfortable bed & LCD TV. Their is also guest laundry which is a great perk.

Nice looking hotel with friendly staff. Unfortunatley, every room is a smoking room. They offer non smoking, but the smell says otherwise. The restaurant is way overpriced. The breakfast buffet opens late and they charge for milk or juice. The indoor pool was full of kids.
