Arrived and checked in after reserving a Non-Smoking Room. Was sent to 3rd floor and immediately upon exiting elevator, there was a strong odor of smoking on this floor. The signs indicated a Non -Smoking floor but obviously was not. Upon entering room, room smelled stale and as if the cat urinated on the carpet. Went downstairs to front desk and asked for a different room.
Elevator stopped on second floor as button there was pushed by workmen. The entire 2nd floor appeared to be under renovation. Workmen were attempting to board elevator with sinks & countertops removed from rooms. A stereo radio the workmen had was in the hallway playing loud music. There was not enough room for the luggage cart and the workmens cart on the elevator so, they decided to wait.
The attendant at the front desk attempted to give me a room on that floor I asked for one somewhere else and she gave me one at the end of the hall on the first floor right next to the side exit. That door is supposed to be locked at night. It is not working and people are coming & going at all hours banging the door. There was a dumpster right outside around the corner near one of my windows. It was for building materials removed by the workmen on the 2nd floor. We were awakened by the dumpster getting changed out as it was full. The bathroom was quite worn and in poor condition. The rest of the room was just OK. Maid service was good however.
Later that night we left for dinner. Upon returning, we entered by the front entrance. The attendant at the front desk stopped us to say "I need to re-program your room keys, as I had to erase them. Otherwise, they won't work. I thought this was odd, but went along with it. Upon opening our door, we immediately knew something was wrong. A ceiling light was on that we did not leave on. I called the front desk after checking our belongings to let them know our room had been entered while we were out. The attendants' explanation was she thought we were in the room next door so, she gave our room to some new arrivals. When they entered our room & discovered it was occupied, she erased all room keys and gave them the room next door.
We stayed 2 nights there. I belong to Best Western Gold Club Rewards and always stay in a Best western. I stayed 6 nights in 3 different Best Westerns that week. This hotel is by far, the worst. when I filled out a poor review at Best Western web site, the hotel manager emailed me an apology and ......get this........an offer for a wopping 10% off my next stay. I think NOT!
