We stayed at this hotel on a recent business trip to Charlotte for 3 nights and therefore had good exposure to most of the amenities and service. We were on a negotiated corporate rate but speaking to other travelers, they had got good last minute deals that were better. We felt that the price was high for the standard of the hotel but it clearly reflects room demand in a popular, fast growing and vibrant city. The travel tine from the airport is only 15 minutes and the hotel offers a shuttle bus service but there are also plenty of taxis with a cost of $20 all in.
The welcome at the hotel reception was efficient but did not exude any warmth. Generally, the hotel is very pleasant but is tired in places and is currently under going refurbishment. The rooms were spacious and comfortable but the in room air conditioning units were a real pain and difficult to balance. When these units kicked in during the night they were very noisy. I had a rear facing room and there is a very busy freeway with heavy traffic 24/7 about 50 meters away. Tea and coffee was not replenished in the room during the stay which was disappointing.
The bar area was large and comfortable with multiple TV screens all on different news and sports channels. The bar offering was fairly standard but without any cocktails or regional promotions, it felt bland and dated. The breakfast selection was excellent but all at extra cost and hence pushed up the 24 hour budget. Restaurant staff were very helpful and attentive but the evening menu was uninspiring and we ate out on all evenings. The leisure facilities were good but lacked adequate changing facilities.
In summary, the hotel is convenient for the airport on the outskirts of the City and in a pleasant location, other than the proximity to the freeway. Internally the hotel is attractive and well laid out but is looking tired in places and refurbishment is underway, on a floor by floor basis. Hopefully, the refurbishment will sort out the poor air conditioning system. We considered that the hotel offered only average value for money but we would return in future if the rate was competitive.
