I didn't get off to a good start at the Hilton Charlotte University Place where I stayed one night in mid-December. The only person at the front desk completely ignored me when I was standing directly in front of her. She only answered the phone and made calls without even acknowledging my presence. Eventually another person showed up and checked me in. My first non-smoking room smelled of cigarette smoke and I had to go back to the front desk and get another room.
I had a king room on one of the 3 executive floors. It was a nice sized room, but had an uncomfortable, cheap quality upholstered chair and ottoman. There was a bright floor lamp beside the chair. The room came with robes and a safe. The flat TV had poor reception--dark and grainy.
I found that rooms on the front of the hotel were quieter than those with a lake view because of large and noisy air conditioning fans on the lake side. My front-side room was very quiet.
I self-parked for free. Valet parking is $7.
The business center is a rip-off. You are allowed 15 minutes of free use and then are charged by the minute. The computer was so slow that half of the 15 minutes was wasted waiting for the computer to change screens.
I was given a coupon for a free full breakfast in the restaurant and that was satisfactory as was a late lunch in the bar. I found the complimentary evening executive lounge food sufficient for dinner.
Overall, the good features were largely offset by the bad. I would rate the hotel higher if I'd been treated properly at arrival.
