I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Charlotte, North Carolina on a business trip in late May. It is conveniently located close to the financial and business district.
While most hotels offer travelers a comfortable room, what seperates them is the level of service the hotel offers. This hotel offers 5* service at 2* prices.
I experienced intermitent ongoing issues with the hotel's wireless network, which presents a problem when away on a business trip. The staff could not have done enough to try and rectify the situation, which included sending 2 different technicians to my room, apologizing profusely for the problem, offering to change my room on numerous occassions, rebooting the hotel's wireless network entirely, accomodating me with free beverage coupons, and untimately asking for me to meet with the hotel Manager to receive a personal apology.

Problems will occur during the normal course of travel from time to time, but how they are dealt with is what seperates the professionals from the amateurs. The front desk associate, who's name is C.K. , did everything within his power to assure that my problem would be addressed as quickly as possible.

Throughout my stay, from the restaurants hostesses , to the front desk staff, to the bellmen, to the cleaning staff, I felt as though I was their personal guest, and was being catered to in every sense of the word. They never failed to greet me with a smile and kind words upon entering or leaving the hotel. I was invited to join in the Manager's cocktail hour in the hotel restaurant. This hotel offered me the type of service that I have received on leisure trips at the Ritz Carlton and at The Four Seasons- the type of individual service that people pay a premium price for. However, the rates here typically hover around the $100 per night range. Definitely a bargain.

The hotel rooms were standard, and comfortable. The in house restaurant has food very reasonably priced. The parking is $15.00 overnight - which is typical. The location just off of the main business district is convenient.

When asking at teh front desk for recommendations about local restraurants, the bellman came over, asked me what I was looking for ( quiet and elegant with upscale dining), and personally brought me free of charge in the hotel van to a restaurant that turned out to be exactly what I was looking for ( Bonterra restaurant) , and picked me up when I was done dining.

The hotel business center is open 24 hours, is large and comfortable, and offers internet, printing and copying services free of charge, in a nice room adorned by a fireplace.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for business and leisure travelers.

My wife and I stayed on a friday night. As others have stated, the hotel was not busy this night. We were placed on the 3rd floor 2 rooms from the elevator. I overlooked the average quality furniture, the poor TV reception, the bleached drapes, the molded bath fixtures, the worn rug, etc, etc, etc.. The parking is extra. They price the cost of the hotel as upscale but it is not inline with the quality of the hotel furnishing.

We stayed in to have a quiet (and attempted ) romantic nite out. We dined in the hotel. Although the they do serve a dinner, it is served in the bar, as apparently the hotel does not have enough business to open the restaurant. So my romantic dinner is shared with bar patrons watching various TV shows. Food was poor to average, and certainly not in line with the $100 bill (no drinks!!!). We needed to remind the server that we needed silverware and salt, pepper, etc. It appeared folks don't eat there.

After dinner, we took out desserts up. The strawberries on the chocolate cake (should be in season) were mostly white inside, and the cheesecake tasted like it was stored for some time, with many other odors.

The evening was uneventful until 12am when someone turned on their TV next door (remeber we are 2 rooms from the elevator, so they must have been next to the elevator).
I was able to follow the storyline like I was watching it. I attempted sleep hoping they would eventually go to sleep as well. Finally at 4am we could no longer be patient. I called the front desk. I do not remember the exact comment from the front desk, but I was not impressed with the level of concern, and said someone would check.
About 5am it stopped. My question is why do they stuff people together when the hotel is very underbooked?

We checked out at 9am, with no one asking about our stay. My opinion is they really didn't want to know. I guess if you don't ask, you don't need to apologize. If other patrons are treated similarly, I am sure the staff gets bombarded with complaints. As of this date I have not been asked from Intercontentental Hotels via email either. Needless to say, the cost does not equal the value. This place is at best a 2 star and should be priced at half its rate.

It is always dissapointing when any guest has an experience that falls below their expectations. Certainly, a high level of cleanliness and maintenance are standards that should always be met.

It becomes even more dissapointing when the hotel does not get the opportunity to correct problems that might arise during a guest's stay.

Almost any problem a guest may experience, and particularly issues related to food quality, can be quickly and completely corrected when brought to the attention of the hotel's management staff. There is never a reason that a guest should have the type of unsatisfactory experience described in this review. While the goal of the hotel is to deliver a perfect stay for each guest, it is also the hotel's goal to respond quickly and completely when problems are reported.

As always feedback is greatly appreciated.

Jan 29, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Booked this trip as a getaway to Charlotte with some friends to celebrate New Year's Eve. The 3 of us are in our twenties. We booked the hotel because it was reasonable for our budget.

This was my first Crowne Plaza stay. I was impressed for the price. The room and bathroom were perfect. Nice size.

We only stayed one night. The hotel had their own private Lincoln towncars which took us to the nearby downtown nightlife for New Year's Eve.

We would recommend this hotel to others our age if you are on a tight budget. The location is perfect for downtown nightlife.

My stay at the Crowne Plaza Charlotte left a lot to be desired. I drove around the block twice upon arrival, because the front entrance to the hotel was not clearly marked and the hotel's shuttles were blocking the doors. The front desk staff wasn't exactly rude, but they were in no way polite. They acted like I was interrupting their conversation.

I was given a room right next to the elevator, although the hotel was clearly all but empty. Upon getting to my room, I found a CD of "soothing" music that the Crowne Plaza provides to guests to help them "relax." I soon learned that this CD is apparently intended to help you drown out the noise that bleeds through the walls. I could hear every word of the telephone conversation that occurred in the room next to me, and the racket from the elevator kept me up all night.

The bed was one of the worst I have ever encountered. There were crumbs and little pieces of chocolate on top of the "clean" comforter when I got ready for bed, and the pillows felt more like old afghans stuffed into pillowcases. The room itself was dingy, the furniture was in terrible shape, and the thermostat was dysfunctional. The temperature fluctuated between 65-80 degrees all night. In addition, there was a floodlight pointed straight into my window from the parking deck below. The hotel staff had thoughtfully provided a clothespin so that you could shut the curtains, but enough light made it through that I did not have to turn on a lamp to read - and I did plenty of reading that night since it was impossible to sleep!

I generally try to be optimistic and laid back when traveling, but the Crowne Plaza Charlotte really tested my patience. I don't like to complain, and since I was only staying one night, I decided not to contact the front desk about all of these problems. As a result, I got about an hour and a half of sleep on the night before my business meeting, and I will never stay at the Crowne Plaza again.

All guest feedback received regarding the experience of any guest, is appreciated and acted upon.

There is no reason any guest should have the type of poor experience described in this review. Along with friendly and efficient service, excellent housekeeping and maintenance are standards all guests should expect and should receive.

It is always dissappointing when the hotel falls short of that guest expectation, and even more dissappointing when the hotel is not given the opportunity to correct problems when they arise. The vast majority of guest problems can be solved quickly and completely when they are reported, and the hotel is given the opportunity to address them.

In the future, I would always encourage every guest to contact hotel management when problems present themselves. With that information the hotel can take action to correct problems for that guest and the next guest.

Me and my husband decided to take a last minute New Year's Eve Trip to Charlotte. I booked the hotel through Hotwire. When I saw where we were staying and I read the reviews here, I knew we were in trouble. I went anyway with the hope that maybe we got a bigger room and that maybe the walls wouldn't be so thin. Well, my hopes went unanswered because the room we had was sooooooo tiny that me and my husband could barely fit with our one suitcase. We were expecting to hear noise in the hall because it was New Year's Eve but the noise we heard ALL NIGHT long was from our neighbor and her lover. It was awarkard and we got no sleep. Please take my advice and don't let the name "Crowne Plaza" fool you; stay away from this hotel. It is not even worth the discounted price you get from hotwire just add $30 or $40 more and stay somewhere else.
