Me and my husband decided to take a last minute New Year's Eve Trip to Charlotte. I booked the hotel through Hotwire. When I saw where we were staying and I read the reviews here, I knew we were in trouble. I went anyway with the hope that maybe we got a bigger room and that maybe the walls wouldn't be so thin. Well, my hopes went unanswered because the room we had was sooooooo tiny that me and my husband could barely fit with our one suitcase. We were expecting to hear noise in the hall because it was New Year's Eve but the noise we heard ALL NIGHT long was from our neighbor and her lover. It was awarkard and we got no sleep. Please take my advice and don't let the name "Crowne Plaza" fool you; stay away from this hotel. It is not even worth the discounted price you get from hotwire just add $30 or $40 more and stay somewhere else.

Hotel was very nice, not great, but nice. I chose this hotel because of it's goverment rate and being pet freindly. The hotel itself is nice but not top teir.Staff was freindly and responsive. Parking was reasonalbe and convienent. Hotel is located in the goverment service area of the city. If you are looking for downtown location it is a 15-20 minute walk. There is a free trolley that is very nice and relialbe just steps away from the hotel. At $100/night as oposed to $180 for a hotel in the main downtown area it was great deal.

I don't understand why this hotel has such good reviews here. It is very average, if that.

The rooms are dated from the furniture to the TV.

The wireless internet is very unreliable. Even the wired internet is connected to the wireless router, so if wireless is down, you are screwed, And it went down every night of my 3 night stay there and several times at that.

The bed like all Crowne Plaza hotels is very comfortable.

The location is just on the very edge of uptown, and there really wasn't a lot around within walking distance.

The rooms aren't very soundproof. I could hear the elevator all the time, the highway outside, and a person snoring in the next room. I'm a deep sleeper, but this might be a problem for others.

The room was cleaned every day, but there was evidence that it wasn't very thorough.

The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly.

Had the hotel breakfast one day, and had the buffet so can only comment on that. Don't recommend it. Selection and quality was poor. Better off ordering something on the menu I would think. BTW, if your rate includes breakfast, you have the option of the menu or the buffet.

I honestly do not know where these glowing reviews for this hotel came from. I've stayed in many Crowne Plaza's and this by far was the worst one i've experienced. Aside from a comfortable bed there was nothing nice about this property.

I checked in and was assigned a room on the 3rd floor. The lobby area was fairly nice. The elevator was old and slow with many scratches complimented by ugly carpeting. The ugly carpeting theme continued in the hallways. I arrived in my "much too small" room only to find a white comforter that was noticably dirty and a tv that had to have been from the 90's. I then attempted to log onto wireless internet (which is still called Best Western). I wasn't able to hold a connection for more than 5 minutes my entire stay. When i told the front desk about this they said that the way their wireless was set up is when any router in the entire hotel has a problem the entire system reboots itself which means if you get 5 minutes of uninterrupted internet time you should consider yourself lucky.

The bathroom was old and beaten up. The shower pressure was great with plenty of hot water but the tub and tile were old with some visible mold and mildew present. There was also some strange rubber blanket thrown on the bottom of the tub i assume to cover up the wear and tear from the 30 year old tub. This rubber blanket is constantly bunching up under your feet and is just plain weird. They need to replace the tubs in this Crowne Plaza wanna-be.

To sum it up you can do much much better than this hotel. It is neither cheap, clean nor upscale in any way. The expected amenities from a 3 star hotel are noticably absent from this property so i suggest you do what i will do in the future and stear clear as this Crowne Plaza totally misses the mark.

Management response from walkinmanSalisburyNc, Bill Moore, General Manager
(Management representative)

Clean comfortable accommodations and friendly, efficient service are minimum standards that every guest should experience each time they stay at the Crowne Plaza Charlotte. Although we are able to meet that expectation for the majority of our guests, we obviously fell short of that goal in this case.

We always welcome feedback from guests, particularly when problems are experienced. In the vast majority of cases, problems that are reported to the hotel Manager on Duty, can be corrected in a timely manner, and any inconvenience to our guests is minimized.

All feedback is discussed with our management team, and the necessary steps are taken to improve in the areas of our operation that resulted in the problems described in this review.

We were looking for a place to stay in Charlotte for just one night and didn't want to spend too much but wanted to be close to downtown, specifically close to Memorial Stadium. The Crowne Plaza ended up being an excellent pick. It was within walking distance of the stadium, and while it was a pretty good hike, we also had a nice walk to the uptown area (Tryon and College area). But no worries, the hotel has a free shuttle so we called and had them pick us up from Discovery Place when we didn't feel like walking back! The best thing about this hotel was the beds. They are so comfortable with a pillow top mattress, nice coverings, and seven pillows on each bed. I think they were feather, and they were so comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful as well.

The only down side was the restaurant breakfast which was, as is typical in many hotels, way overpriced and not too impressive. So instead we walked across the street and got a great latte and bagel breakfast sandwich for a great price. I think the name was Koko-mo's. Would highly recommend this as well. .
