Stayed one night in November 2009 while in Charlotte for work. The Manager's Reception is from 5:30-7:30 and was fabulous. The bartender was friendly and I much enjoyed my dirty martinis. They also had tortilla chips, nacho cheese sauce, salsa, peanuts, and pretzels available for snacking.

The room was large and clean. My only complaint about the hotel is its lack of free wireless internet. 24 hour access is $10.

The cooked to order breakfast in the morning was great. Omelets, breakfast meats, potatoes, juice, coffee, fruit...the works! It was a great value for the rate. Lack of included wifi was more than made up by the Manager's Reception and Complimentary breakfast~

We stayed one night for a dance convention at another hotel and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice.

DH checked in so I can't comment on friendliness of the front desk staff, but he had no comments or complaints. Upon entering the front door, we were struck by the beauty of the atrium with it's lush jungle-like foliage and fountains. The glass elevators busily sliding up and down the 8 or so floors gave a nice bustle to the place.

We stayed in a king suite, and for the price ($84.15 plus tax/fees) I felt like it was a bargain. The king bed in the bedroom was very comfortable, and the fold-out was more than adequate for the two kids. There was plenty of room for everyone, with the added bonus of having two tvs so that the kids could watch kids shows in the living room and Dad could watch football in the bedroom. Then, the kids could sleep...while Dad watched football.

As I said, the bed was very comfortable with crisp bedding and good pillows. Our only problem with the room - missing blanket and pillow(s) for the fold-out couch - was very quickly remedied by housekeeping.

One other minor issue was the availabity of certain tv channels. The cable was pretty limited, so many of the sports channels were not available. That was a minor problem on college football Saturday night, but wasn't any kind of "deal breaker".

The bathroom was well appointed - no tub, just a walk-in shower. A mild complaint was the narrowness of the shower - I'm a pretty small person, but I had difficulty getting washed without banging the grab-bar or the shower door. But, again, not a deal breaker at all. The furnished toiletries were very aromatic. There were enough towels for all four of us and they were really plush towels. We've had problems with this in the past at hotels who should know we are a family of four but provide only 2 towels. Having a sink area in the bedroom, with a bar-sink right outside the bathroom and an additional sink and vanity in the bathroom was very helpful while getting ready in the morning. Nobody really had to wait to brush their teeth or fix hair or makeup.

We had two "cracks" at the breakfast buffet Sunday morning. Our daughter was attending a dance convention at another hotel and had to leave really early. Fortunately, by 6:50, continental choices were already available and she had enough to choose from to "grab and go" (fruit, muffins, milk, etc). After getting her settled, the rest of us returned to eat. Keep in mind that the price was included in the price. Hot, made-to-order breakfast meals were available and while the line was quite long, the cooks and servers were quite efficient in filling the orders. By the time we were leaving the hotel - about 10:15 am - the hot line looked to be just closed.

I'd read complaints about noise coming from the atrium and requested a room away from the noise. I was initially dismayed that we were on the 2nd facing the atrium. However, at no time was noise an issue. We often have issues sleeping in a hotel if there is unusual noise (road noise, elevator noise, laundry noise...trains, etc). We had no such noise issues here.

Overall, my opinion of this hotel is very high. It looks and feels like a $150/night hotel and carries out the impression with good service. The area is right off I-77, so it was not a stylish or quaint area - rather industrial - but we didn't have any worries about safety, and it's location made it really easy to get into the city. I would definitely stay here again!

There weren't problems with cleanliness even during a Nascar race weekend, but the front desk staff were rude on the phone & in person and during a 3-night stay the room was cleaned once. It was so busy they must have missed it according to the front desk. Do not leave ANYTHING in your car and be careful at night. It didn't feel unsafe, but there was a murder in the parking lot the last night there (A Sunday!). The buffet didn't have as many choices as other Embassy Suites. There is a Steeler Club Bar & Grill across the street, so that was a plus! It is close to the airport, but for the money stay in Southpark if you're there a few days; it's just as close to uptown and the mall & plenty of other shops & restaurants are close, too.

I saw so many negative reviews on this hotel and oh how I wish I had listened. Our first "nonsmoking" room smelled of smoke sooo much, second room sightly better. No shampoo provided, except for a half-used bottle sitting on top of the shower rod-yeah nice! Mold was growing in the back of our fridge- so nasty. The shuttle bus to the airport was running early enough for us to make our 7:50 am flight so we had to take a cab-need I go on?? So not up to normal Embassy Suites standards. The Embassy Suites in Concord is so much nicer-by far. Stay there if at all possible!

Up front I just need to say that we travel a lot and Embassy Suites is our preferred hotel chain. Secondly, we are not complainers. We enjoy giving a good review.

My wife and I stayed four nights around Memorial Day at the Embassy Suites Charlotte. We were very pleased to obtain the rate that we got considering that it was NASCAR week in Charlotte. With race fans and a convention taking place the hotel was full up.

The location is convenient, just off the interstate. Their parking lot is un-necessarily confusing to navigate with automatic gates and stanchions. Since the gates open for anyone who pulls up to the lot they offer no security, just annoyance.

Check in was smooth even though the desk clerk seemed slightly ill-humored. Perhaps because even though full, the hotel seemed to rarely have more than one person on the desk.

Our room was the standard two room suite that we enjoy with Embassy Suites. But, upon entering we were struck by a musty, mildew smell. In the bedroom area it was so strong that it actually burned our eyes and noses. With the hotel fully booked there was no chance to change rooms. I suspect that either drain water from the AC or rain water was leaking into the exterior wall causing mildew. The room was about 85 degrees and stayed that way until the second day when we learned that if we set the thermostat to 60 we could get the temperature down to about 75 degrees. The toilet seat was not bolted to the bowl but our request for a repair was taken care of quickly. The system they had for TV viewing was weird. There was no index channel or Guide in the room. All you could do was flip the channels one-by-one with the inadequate remote. Once we turned the TV on the bedroom, it wouldn't turn off. We had to unplug it. Beyond that, the bed was comfortable.

The housekeeping service needs a management shake up. Our first morning there the maid ignored the sign on the door handle then without knocking and with no announcement just opened the door and walked in. As ecologically minded people we used the system suggested on the placard in the bath and put the towels to be replaced on the floor and hung up others to be used again. The maid took all of them and did not replace any of them. A call to the desk resulted in a very friendly lady bringing us more.

One of the features we value most at Embassy Suites is their fine breakfast buffet in their gorgeous atrium lobbies. The lobby here is beautiful, but the buffet was a disaster. We arrived for breakfast one hour before the posted closing time. The self-serve side of the buffet had no food, no trays, plates, flatware or cups. The line waiting for the made-to-order omelets was an approximate 45 minute wait. We were among many guests who stood fuming in the lobby so I went to the front desk to see if some one could help. They told us that the dining services manager was working the grill and doing the best that he could. It was clear that he and his staff were not up to the challenge of a full hotel. On our last day the crowds were not as large so we did the buffet. We were disappointed to find the food quality was no better than we could have gotten at a fast food drive through.

We will continue to choose Embassy Suites, but not this one. The price was fabulous, but we still did not get what we paid for. Embassy Suites needs to either change the management and do a complete check up of the physical facility , or, sell it to a chain with a lower reputation.
