I stayed at this hotel June 25 - June 28th for business / leisure with my family. The curb appeal and lobby is great and it makes you feel like you will be at a 4 star hotel. Well looks can be deceiving. Initial reaction to the room was "this is interesting decor". It was very DARK and GLOOMY. When you have black furniture, you need a lot of light. Here is the breakdown. BATHROOM: Bathroom is too small, too dark and has too much sink above counter. If the water is turned on too quickly, it will splash on top and run-off on the counter. If you have clothes on the counter then they will get wet. There is no place to hang up your clothing in the bathroom. The hook is outside of the bathroom near the closet well. Not convenient if someone else is in the area making coffee. The shower does not have a shower door or curtain. Their is half of a glass solid door. I guess this is their version of saving water because you have to stand close to the shower head to get wet, turnoff the water, soap up and rinse off to keep the water from getting the floor wet. Well, that doesn't work. The water drainage is very slow so all your dirty water settles on your ankles. Not enough towels. HOUSEKEEPING: Called for extra towels and pillow and after 2 hours still didn't get them so went to sleep. RESTAURANT: Service was lousy. You ask for coffee and they bring you cold coffee. The kids went in for breakfast they were not ready. There was a line waiting with kids on line first and they were the last to be served. POOL: Never open when they should be and maintainence was done during the time it should open during a busy weekend. Pool didn't open until 3pm and closed at 6pm. PARKING: You pay for self-parking. Park on the 2nd level to get to the lobby. If you park on the first level, you have to walk up a flight and it is a long walk. So if you are with someone elder, this is not a good for them. You should get the parking pass for unlimited entry which is about $30 depending on how long you stay but check your credit card statement when you get home immediately because I was charged $30 and then $210. BELL HOP: There are only 2 dollys for bell service so if you are in a rush to leave make advance plans. Good luck with that. VENDING/ICE: Stayed on the 8th floor and no vending or ice machines., Have to go down one flight. SHUTTLE: Drop-offs only and no pickups. Be prepared to walk, bus it or cab it. LOCATION: The area is nice. However, there is no place to eat and the closest restaurants Quiznos and a Cafe are not open on weekends. You have to go to E. Trade Street or N. Tryon St for decent food because the hotel restaurant is not an option. AMENITIES: Their is no microwave or refridgerator so you can't heat up left overs and if your require medication that needs to stored in a cold environment bring a cooler. OVERALL: After driving 10hrs from NJ, I would have love to call this place home away from home and I can't. STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Basically, this hotel comes down to the word, “strange”. They really want to be an upscale hotel but they are trying too hard. They end up just looking plain silly. For example, they have very “Modern” décor that really makes things unusable. For example, our bathroom looked nice enough until I tried to shave – and noticed that there was not a mirror above the sink – it was in the next room over with no sink. And the sink itself slung water all over the place when you turned it on. The décor is also a bit hokey. Next to the elevators are “aluminum” grates covering the lights – which turn out to be (without any close inspection) plastic painted with screws and washers hanging out. Inside the elevators is their logo – which is backed with tin-foil. It is really not somewhere you want to stay in case you have to (which we did).
On a practical note, the Wi-Fi was worse than terrible and cost about $10 a day. Everywhere in the hotel it was useless. As far as eating, you need to get out of the hotel – the food is not good. The best place is by the college where there is inexpensive and good food (from the lobby – Go right to Elizabeth, take a right and walk until you run into it).

If you are thinking about this hotel, don't do it! It was the worst hotel experience that I have ever had. Your first impression is that the lobby looks great. Well, this is where it stops because the rest of the hotel is in utter ruins. We were booked on a floor that was not remodeled. The bathroom had not been updated since the 70s. There was not adequate lighting. The door was a slab of decaying wood. The toilet was not bolted down to anything. The water that ran from the bathtub was brown. When I called to report the water, my phone would not even connect to an operator. When I finally reached someone and complained about the brown water and lighting, I was told that was common, and to let the water run a while. The rep seemed unconcerned, and more importantly, she sounded like she had heard the story 100 times already from other guests. I demanded to be transferred to another, updated room. This one was a little better, but not by much. The shower has no door or curtain, but half of a wall blocking the faucet. You have to climb into the shower just to turn it on. And because there is no curtain or protection from the rest of the bathroom, the water floods the entire bathroom. I'm sure they have extreme leakage problems. When I complained, I was told that this is how its made, and there is nothing they can do. Of course, they don't care. The halls have a foul odor. The elevators were laced with trash. I saw a pile of tossed fast food in the corner of one of the elevators. The hotel was dark and dreary, and it felt haunted. It didn't even have many guests. It takes 15 minutes to walk to the parking garage. I even heard a rep dissuade another guest from eating in their restaurant. The entire hotel stinks. The internet in the lobby doesn't work because they claim they have to reboot their modem when a guest wants to use it. I believe they would fail inspection in every category. This hotel ruined my trip and I hope they get shut down!

Initially the decor seems handsome however the rooms are poorly lit for the trendy yet dark decor. Women forget applying makeup the lighting is too dark. The towels need to be replaced. The halls and lobby areas are hot. The restaurant is over priced, and DARK can't see what you're eating but that may have been a plus cause it wasn't good anyway. Ballrooms are nice bedrooms a pitiful. The decor is nice but the lighting is horrible. It was drab and uninviting. If you suffer from depression this is not your place. I can't imagine staying here in inclimate weather, the dark halls are enough to zap the life from anyone. The elevators are very very SLOW. YOu gotta pay $140 to stay and $10 per day for internet. DUH! what was the $140 for?

Ok stayed at the Blake Hotel for CIAA weekend (a big party week in Charlotte for college basketball) anyway we got a fabulous rate off of one of the websites, so this made our stay the best. We were on the 4th floor, room in front of the elevators (which I could have changed, but I am sure the hotel was full this weekend). The hotel is very trendy looking, the rooms they might have went over board in trying to make it trendy, and then had an old phone from the 80's so we thought it was funny, like they ran out of money for the upgrades.

The location was walking distance from the convention center and downtown/uptown whichever they call it, so that was fabulous, you didnt need to rent a car and their were cabs outside at all times.

Negatives, the food in the restaurant was nothing of interest. There is no room service and no work out room. I dont think I've ever been to a hotel without a fitness center??? That was really weird.

While we were there the hot water went out. I have to commend the staff as this hotel was full to capacity, and the staff made it their concern to explain to the guest what was going on, they put a memo under the door about the problem. They also gave you a refund of one nights stay and gave you the options of changing hotels or being shuttled to another hotel to take a shower. I was impressed that they handled this situation promply and professionally.

But I have seen there prices start at the 250-350 section and I would have been very upset at my accomodations if this is what I paid per night. The hotel is definitely not worth those prices per night.
