My 74 year old Father and I were traveling to Gettysburg on I-65 from Pensacola,Florida and needed to stop over night to rest at a hotel. We ended up at the Country Hearth Inn- Charlotte , NC.
After we checked in for two adjoining rooms we paid our money and drove around to the rooms 113. After entering the rooms we were shocked to see dirty walls, and cigarette burns, fesses stained in the toilet, the smell was overwhelming of musty stench.
All I wanted was to take a nice bath but as I entered the bathroom it looked like someone had urinated in the tub. the carpet was discuss-ting with grime and dirt. Just as I picked up the phone to call the front desk my Father came into my room with a look of shock on his face. He was telling me to come look at his room. I walk into his room it was even worse. His Television would not work, and the tub looked filthy with cigarette burns all over it. My father had requested a no smoking room but the room reeked of cigarettes. I went back to my room looked at the telephone that I just had in my hands moments before ,and was just shocked to see all the dirt on it. I took pictures of this room and my fathers room. His bathroom had all urine around the bottom of the toilet. I suggested we leave and my father being a bad diabetic said that he just didn't feel well and wanted to sleep for a couple of hours then get out of there. I agreed reluctantly due to his health. When I pulled the blankets back the sheets had big stains , and holes in them. Needless to say - I did not sleep at all. My father had gotten very ill from the smoke smell in his room. We left the Country Hearth Inn in the wee hours of the morning without bathing in the nasty tubs. I have never seen a more disgusting hotel in all my life. Everything I have just described I took pictures of.

We were traveling around visiting nascar race teams and we had got a voucher book from McDonalds on our travels which had this motel in it at a cheap price ($35). Once we had checked in we were walking to our room and felt pretty dodge from the start. We were even to scared to get our bags out of the car. At about 10pm we went to wendys to get some dinner and took it back to our room and also took our bags in at this time. We got to our room and put the latch across the door. About 20 mins later we heard a helicopter flying around, and then we had a knock at our door, we just sat there slient and didnt answer the door. We heard the neighbours talking to someone but couldnt really hear what they were saying cause of the helicoper buzzing around. I woke up in the morning and turned on the tv to see a head line on the news to say Murder at Motel and it had a picture of this motel. "Shortly before 10:30 pm last night, two motel employees were shot by an armed robber at the Country Hearth Inn, located on Equipment Drive . One employee died at the scene and the other suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive." I read a few other articles after this and they have a high crime rate, the cops go there about twice a week.
This Place is way to Dodgy.... dont stay here

What a wonderful stay for our family!

Yes, I went into this family trip with some anxiety- my husband planned this excursion for his birthday celebration. It was all about a a trip to the Lowes Motor Speedway for a NASCAR event... eek.. I must admit we had a great time. The hotel, although older, was maintained in fine order. Our room was very clean, the pool was wonderful and we had a great stay. If we return to the area, we will stay again!

Worst room I have seen ever. Nasty, nasty. I stayed in the room for 2 minutes and felt dirty. The plunger left in the bathroom was a nice touch .

Sep 24, 2007 | Trip type: Couples

My boyfriend and I planned on staying in Charlotte, NC for one night after a concert instead of driving 3.5 hours back to our home. After searching on [--], we decided on the Country Hearth Inn because it was reasonably priced, and we didn't need anything fancy for one night.

Upon arrival, the staff was friendly. On our way to our room (all room entrances were located outside), we noticed some people that looked rather sketchy. We didn't want to judge quickly, so we decided to see how things were when we got back from the concert.

The room itself was decent, it did need to be updated, but was fine for one night. The only thing that worried us was that there was paper shoved in the peephole. This told us that certain types of people have stayed there before... if you know what I mean. We still didn't want to judge, so 3 hrs later, after showering and taking a nap, we decided to pack our bags, and if things were bad when we got back late from the concert, we could just go straight to the office.

On our way out to leave for the concert, there were two police cars outside by where the "sketchy people" were staying... not sure if they were the ones involved. At that point we decided to check out. We were very polite and just told the woman at the front desk that it wasn't the hotel itself, but we were just uncomfortable with the situation that was going on. She was not understanding, telling us that it was nothing to worry about, but we insisted on checking out.

So after calling [--](they were great and understood), we went back to the front desk where we turned in our keys. The woman asked if we dirtied up the room where we replied that we just took showers. Her tone changed and she told us that we would have to pay $10 for the housekeepers to go in and clean. We could not believe that she was saying that, and were quite shocked. We refused, and she eventually said nevermind to the $10 after we told her that we WERE planning on staying there for the night, but now we had to drive 3.5 hrs back home.

Fortunately, we stopped at a hampton inn on the way home where the we had a very pleasant stay. We would not recommend the Country Hearth Inn to anyone. Our 3 hour stay there was a waste of our time, and could have potentially been harmful to us.

(Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to explain everything)

  • Liked — Location... right off of highway.
  • Disliked — The staff was not understanding of the circumstances
