My boyfriend and I planned on staying in Charlotte, NC for one night after a concert instead of driving 3.5 hours back to our home. After searching on [--], we decided on the Country Hearth Inn because it was reasonably priced, and we didn't need anything fancy for one night.
Upon arrival, the staff was friendly. On our way to our room (all room entrances were located outside), we noticed some people that looked rather sketchy. We didn't want to judge quickly, so we decided to see how things were when we got back from the concert.
The room itself was decent, it did need to be updated, but was fine for one night. The only thing that worried us was that there was paper shoved in the peephole. This told us that certain types of people have stayed there before... if you know what I mean. We still didn't want to judge, so 3 hrs later, after showering and taking a nap, we decided to pack our bags, and if things were bad when we got back late from the concert, we could just go straight to the office.
On our way out to leave for the concert, there were two police cars outside by where the "sketchy people" were staying... not sure if they were the ones involved. At that point we decided to check out. We were very polite and just told the woman at the front desk that it wasn't the hotel itself, but we were just uncomfortable with the situation that was going on. She was not understanding, telling us that it was nothing to worry about, but we insisted on checking out.
So after calling [--](they were great and understood), we went back to the front desk where we turned in our keys. The woman asked if we dirtied up the room where we replied that we just took showers. Her tone changed and she told us that we would have to pay $10 for the housekeepers to go in and clean. We could not believe that she was saying that, and were quite shocked. We refused, and she eventually said nevermind to the $10 after we told her that we WERE planning on staying there for the night, but now we had to drive 3.5 hrs back home.
Fortunately, we stopped at a hampton inn on the way home where the we had a very pleasant stay. We would not recommend the Country Hearth Inn to anyone. Our 3 hour stay there was a waste of our time, and could have potentially been harmful to us.
(Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to explain everything)
