Best shrimp and grits
Good atmosphere, good food.
A frequent place for great American food and half price bottles of wine (Mondays? Tuesdays? can't remember, so I'd suggest calling ahead)
We had passed 300 East many times en route to other restaurants in the Dilworth area - we have so many favorites there. We decided to stop in this time and I have to say my experience did not match the great reviews on here.
We dined late afternoon and there were only two other people in restaurant. We were greeted by a young man at the door who had an unusually abrasive voice. He tried to seat us almost on top of the only two people in the place and when we asked to sit at another location, he was visibly and audibly perturbed.
We decided to let that slide and concentrate on the menu. While we looked we ordered passion fruit iced tea which was quite good.
I ordered fish tacos and my wife had a chicken sandwich with pesto and a cup of sausage and corn soup.
The tacos, at $10.00 were not a good value. Two small tortillas contained fried Tilapia about the size of a book of matches on each. These were placed on a bed of pineapple slaw with about a tablespoon of guacamole and a small container of salsa. The ingredients tasted fresh enough, but the portion was microscopic.
My wife's sandwich and soup were a little more generous portion-wise, but still a little over-priced for the quantity. She did pronounce them very tasty.
Service was acceptable but at times a little strange. The music was loud and I never could figure out what type it was - maybe ska or something.
I'm not sure I'd go back - there are too many great restaurants in Dilworth. I was surprised since 300 East has outlived many in the area. Maybe I should try it once again, but I was not very impressed with this initial visit.
