Description: Nikko Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar has a high energy atmosphere with a contemporary style. We are known for inventive, excellent, award winning sushi as well as the finest modern Japanese cuisine. Nikko has the feel of a upscale New York city restaurant with the promise to be hot and sexy. We have an assortment of over 300 bottles of fine wines as well as a full service bar. We feature a large private dining room with a full projection screen for company events or any other special occasion. Joannas welcoming personality with feather boa and trademark cowboy hat with tambourine overwhelms guests with "Sushi Love" when sake bombs are requested.

“Loud but Good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This is a VERY loud restaurant - hard to hear your companions talk. That said, the food and service were both excellent, and we arrived with no reservation and were still seated quickly. The ambiance is interesting... very heavily a young, hip crowd, loud music, tvs on sports all over, a sushi bar, tables, booths.... rather modern and a bit harsh. But again, excellent food! They have valet parking.

“Still the best sushi restaurant in Charlotte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

If you want a pure sushi experience, Niko has it down. It is not a fusion place. It has a very modern feel and is a sushi restaurant. Food is great. The owner is a hoot as well.

“Pricey, but certainly an event”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

The owner herself is worth the trip. She works the room, dons a boa and beats a tambourine if you agree to do a saki bomb. The food was fresh and great selection.

“Sexy Sushi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012

Hubby and I wanted to go somewhere special for our 13th wedding anniversary, so we decided on Charlotte’s uptown Nikko location. As a testament to the restaurant’s popularity, weekend tables in the evening were booked solid for two months. We opted for an early dinner on Sunday instead.

Nikko is touted as a Charlotte hotspot, the proverbial place to see and be seen. We dressed to the nines, but apparently casual attire is the norm on Sunday. We did our best to conjure some romance as the sun streamed through the windows and a table of six dressed in cut-off shorts drunkenly cavorted in the booth across the way. We worked our way through the sake selections and ended up trying the Moonstone Asian Pear and Plum varieties.

Our server was hard-pressed to make decent recommendations on the sake or the most popular dishes. She also hurried us through the ordering process. As with any spendy, special occasion dinner, we ordered more than necessary, but the quality of the food did not disappoint. It’s just too bad the service wasn’t up to par. The staff in general seemed trapped in the Twilight Zone.

The calamari appetizer ranks as one of best we’ve tried anywhere, as chewiness tends to be a factor. We then opted for three plates of Nikko’s specialty rolls. Our favorite roll was the Omega 3 with the Volcano Roll coming in a close second. The soy onion dressing on the Tuna Carpaccio seemed a bit bland, but only slightly. In my search for all things soup, the Seafood Udon is what made us decide to dine at Nikko in the first place. That big bowl of slightly spicy curry coconut goodness with shrimp, king crab, mussels, and scallops hit this soup lover’s soul!
