A friend of mine had seen this play in Boston and recommended it so when I saw it was playing in uptown Charlotte I thought why not take in some shopping and a play. We stayed in uptown Charlotte at the Hampton Inn which I recommend as far as being clean, clean, clean and very nice and quiet, but it isn't really necessary to stay that close to the theatre if you don't want. Uptown is a little confusing if you aren't familiar with it but it's very interesting to walk around the streets.
Now on to the hilarious Shear Madness. The play is set in a present day hairstyling salon in Charlotte (or whatever city it's playing in at the time). The landlady Isabel Czerny who lives above the shop is murdered, and every one of the actors has a reason to do her in. The audience gets involved in the action by questioning the actors and attempting to solve the crime. Honestly, I laughed until I cried. I enjoyed myself so much. The actors are very funny and when they interact with the audience they do not hold back. I think they do a little ad-libbing because sometimes even some of the actors seemed surprised and ready to crack up. The whole cast is wonderful and you may have seen some of them in other plays, in movies or on TV. Personally, my husband and I both loved Tom Wahl as Tony. I could just look at him and laugh even when he wasn't speaking.
In short, I'm going to make sure I get to go and "lather, rince, repeat" and laugh with the crew of Shear Madness again no matter what city I have to follow them to.
