“lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

My husband and I had a weekend get-a-way and stayed overnight at the Dunhill. The staff was very helpful and accommodated all of my requests; feather free bedding, extra pillows, and sodas of our choice in our refrigerator. I requested a low floor, due to my fear of heights, but we were right next to the street and the cars revving their engines at the stop light all night long kept us awake. It was my choice to request a low floor, but I can't imagine anyone could have slept in this room. It was beyond the hotel's control and we could have requested to move to another, quieter room, which we will do next time. Other than that, we had a lovely time.

Room Tip: don't stay on the 2nd floor, too close to the street and too noisy.

This is a very nice historic hotel right in downtown charlotte. Located close to everything. The employees are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered in a hotel. See Pete the bartender for lots of good information on what to see and do. Included is also use of the YMCA with a great gym. The only negative is the pillows, need an upgrade there

Room Tip: 403 is a nice corner room with a good size bath

We decided to spend the night in Charlotte (our closest city) after one of our Symphony Series concerts at the Knights Theater. We picked the Dunhill Hotel because of its central location and quaintness. It was perfect. Our room was beautiful and unique, with a corner view of Tryon Street and across 6th Street to Discovery Place. It was great fun to pass through the charming lobby and out the door, then take a short walk to one of our favorite downtown restaurants (Rock Bottom) for a late lunch. To get to our concert, we crossed Tryon Street and used the over-street walkway, passing through Blumenthal and the maze of bank buildings all the way down to the park across from the Firebird sculpture and the Knights Theater. After the concert, we walked over to the Epicenter to hear dueling pianos at "Howl at the Moon," then stopped for a snack at one of the outdoor Bar & Grills. Walking back "home" to the Dunhill completed our wonderful "Date Night" in our own town. We enjoyed a full and scrumptious breakfast the next morning at the restaurant adjacent to the hotel at no additional charge. Highly recommend!

Arrived for a birthday getaway. Front desk friendly and welcoming. The room, while very clean, was beginning to show wear. The bed was very loose and we reported this to the front desk. The problem was corrected immediately even if the fix was a couple of wood screws sunk into the bed frame. Problem fixed, but hotel should consider a remodel. Location is excellent. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. We did the bed and breakfast package which included breakfast at Harvest Moon Reataurant connected to the hotel. This was a nice touch and a good meal. The lobby bar can get very noisy at night but this is due to its popularity and its small size. The bar tender is excellent and knowledgable. Our overall stay was good and we will return after the hotel is updated.

Good boutique hotel with very good service culture - staff is very helpful. Location is excellent - very centrally located - all the places I needed to get to we're walking distance. Restaurant was basic - does not have a breakfast buffet. Did not have any meals other than breakfast there. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby. Hotel bar is very small in the lobby. During my first stay was upgraded to a suite which was nice. Second time was in a regular room which is average. Hotel does not have a gym - they give you a pass to the YMCA which is a 15 minute walk one way from hotel. Wifii is free and fast.

If you are a business traveller the Westin nearby maybe the better choice. For leisure travelers if you can get upgraded to the suite the Dunhill is a good option.

The Dunhill is charming and well located. The lobby bar is quite lovely with a friendly bartender. When the neighboring restaurant is at its best, there's none better for the included breakfast.
On my recent stay, I found my breakfast to be a disappointment, with runny eggs and grits and the bacon far too sweet. I also thought the sheets on the bed had gone down in quality from the last time I was here, as they felt like polyester. I agree with another reviewer that the pillows are far too hard.
My biggest complaint with the room has to be the fact that there was only one usable outlet in the double room, for just a single plug. I had to charge my phone on the bathroom sink. For a room with two beds, I think there should be at least four places to charge. Otherwise, it was a nice stay.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Dunhill for a weekend due to a convention. We absolutely loved the homey atmosphere and hospitality. The staff could not do enough for us. They have a beautiful shuttle and will even drive you to and pick you up from wherever you need to go. The rooms are extremely clean and beautifully decorated. Very nice bar and restaurant downstairs with a breakfast unlike I had ever seen.
