I arrived late in the evening after flight delays and was greeted with the news that the hotel was overbooked so I would be offered only a sofa-bed for the first night, but be upgraded for the second night. Since I was not paying for the room, they offered me a $30 food and beverage certificate and points towards a later stay at a Westin. Since my food was also covered I asked for something else instead, but that was it.
I went to the room, paid for Internet access, and had trouble logging on. When I called down to the desk they told me access was down throughout the hotel. Although service was reinstated after 30 minutes or so, every time I tried to use the public access in the lobby, access was also down.
As I planned to go to bed--on the sofa bed--I realized it had not been made up with blankets. When I called down to the desk the said they were out of blankets, but offered to bring up several sheets instead. I declined. This occurred with several other attendees at my conference as well (both the sofa bed and the blanket issues).
When I checked out, I asked if I could apply the credit to my internet access balance instead, but they were unable to do so and gave me more points towards future stays instead. Based on this experience I am unlikely to choose a Westin first!
The staff were polite but unhelpful. On the other hand, food served at our meetings was excellent, and the lobby bar seemed popular.
