Let me begin by saying how much I enjoyed staying at that hotel. The moment I checked-in I had a feeling that this will be a good hotel to stay at considering I work for IBM which is only a block away from the hotel. They had everything I needed as a business traveler plus this time around I had my wife and my 6 year old daughter with me. While I was out working, my wife and daughter had fun in their indoor swimming pool. The wheather was cloudy and my wife is not much of a outside person. Ofcourse when I came back they told me what they did all day and usually my daughter is not thrilled at staying at a hotel. We went to Carrowinds on Saturday after I finished all my work on Friday afternoon. It is so conveniently located near all the good restaurants.
I have nothing to say about the rooms other than saying they were in excellent condition. The new mattress was really comfortable and having a suite with 2 TV's that's like heaven in a hotel room where your daughter can watch what she wants and I don't necessarily have to watch her cartoon channels all evening.
Hey I'm a picky person but they made everything perfect from the staff to the service.

  • Liked — Freindly service and clean rooms.
  • Disliked — Can't think of any. The trip was too short maybe.

At 11:30pm 2/16/08 we had finally had all of the noise that we could possibly endure. The 8-10 teenagers who were in the pool with their jeans and t-shirts on squealed and stomped around until around 12am. The older teenagers (5 total) were in the back yard outside the pool practicing their fencing technique. They constantly clanged their swords together from 11pm until I went downstairs at 11:45 and asked them to stop. This was after 2 calls to the front desk and a trip downstairs where the security guard informed me that what they were doing was perfectly legal and harmless and that he could not force them to stop. He was not willing to even ASK them to stop. He did, however, inform me about the sport of fencing and it's non-violent origins and about what a perfectly respectable sport it is. So I was forced to do his job and ask the kids if they would please knock it off. They happily obliged. That's all he would have had to do. We were on the 3rd floor and this noise was so loud that they may as well have been in our room. I was shocked at the attitudes of the security guard first and foremost, but then also at the attitudes of the other 3 desk workers who stood by and did nothing to help me do what I paid them $109 to do and that was to have a quiet place to get a good night's sleep. I am only 26 years old so this is not a complaint from some older person who hates to hear the slightest noise when they are trying to sleep. If this is how the front desk and security handle a small problem then this is a terrible indication of how a real problem would be handled. If they would have helped me to get some sleep then I probably would have overlooked the torn furniture coverings, the dirty sink and the stale smell in the outdated room. So in short, to have made a repeat customer of my wife and myself the employees could do something they are paid to do; care.

Aug 23, 2007 | Trip type: Family

On Monday, August 20th, my husband and I decided to have a little getaway for my birthday, school is starting soon and we wanted one more escape! So we headed for Charlotte, with the green coupon book in hand. We wanted to stay some where near Concord Mills mall, and found a Days Inn for 44.00, I won't begin to say how bad that was, because I'm here to talk about the Country Inns and Suites, University Place. We looked again at the coupons, and my husband said, let's try this place. Coupon was for 49.00! When we got to the Country Inn and Suites University Place we couldn't believe how beautiful it was, looked brand new, and every thing was immaculate in the lobby!
We were a little afraid, because the coupon was for two, and we had our 13 year old son with us, but they said no problem, and got us a beautiful room right away. My son was so happy with his queen size pillow top bed, and he said: "these are the pillows of the gods!" Pillows were so soft and there were four of them per bed. Everything in the room was extremely clean and there were no stains, peeling paper or anything at all that could make even the most discerning traveler uncomfortable!
We got into our swim suits and headed down to the pool, via the very clean elevator and found the pool area to be just as lovely as the rest of the hotel. I personally loved the hot tub! After our swim, we went out to dinner and shopping and then returned for a very restful night's sleep.
The next morning we had a very good breakfast: there was eggs, biscuits, gravy, cereal, waffles, fuit, coffee and juices.
The only problem we had the whole time was the fruit cocktail had fermented, but I mentioned it to the young lady working in the dining room, and she got fresh fruit cocktail right away.
Everyone at the hotel is very helpful and pleasant. The staff works very hard to make sure everything is super clean and in pristine condition. I saw a lady in the hall polishing the wood until it gleamed!
For the price we paid, the location and how absolutely wonderful this hotel is, we will definitely stay again!

  • Liked — Ultra Clean, super comfortable and great price!!
  • Disliked — We had to go home

We'd stayed here two other times in preparation to catch an early flight out of CLT. We knew it wasn't posh, pretty or even modern. Up until this time, it had been passing. This time, though, we decided that we will not go back until they renovate. Our room had peeling wallpaper and mold. The A/C was so noisy that it was impossible to sleep.
We parked our car directly in front of the hotel and it was fine. However, the pick-up shuttle was super slow on a 100-degree day.
We won't return any time soon, that's for sure!

Very old and run down and unkept. This Inn does not even have an elevator. I'm not fond of dragging luggage up stairs. They make an attempt to have a breakfast area but it too is substandard by most of Inns today. We will not stay here again.
