I often use Priceline to book hotels. You can get some really GREAT rates through the "name your own price" feature, but you have to be willing to suck it up a little bit if you put in that you will accept anything 3 star or 2 star. I had never heard of "Mainstay Suites" though Priceline states that they only use national brands. (It is a national brand, I guess, just not a very popular one.) For $29/night (about $40 with tax) you can't ask for much. The hotel was NOT that bad but it definatly could use an update on the dingyness of the rooms. It seemed well vacuumed and pretty clean (the bathroom was very clean), but the old, ripped carpet, the peeling wallpaper, the icky stuff around the sealant in the shower, were kind of turn offs. That said, the rooms are HUGE. In fact, it's like a large studio apartment with a living room/kitchen and bedroom, both of which had their own televisions and dvd player. The kitchen is a full kitchen complete with full refridgerator, stove area, dishwasher, and sink. If you are really, really particular about where you stay this might not be the place for you, but if you just need relatively comfortable place to sleep at a cheap rate then I would recommend the Mainstay Charlotte to you. Not in the greatest area, but close to 77. Can be loud if there are partiers in other rooms. The staff was friendly at the front desk.
