Just a place to lay my head after a serious jaunt from Ireland via Canada. Lobby stinks of chlorine, ( I spied a tiny plungepool off lobby, must be chlorine only) And the staff moved in slow southern motion. In fact I think they were napping when we arrived. Part of the southern charm I guess but we were exhausted. Room was much nicer than I expected after a dodgy start.
Quiet room despite the hotel being full to capacity. Can't comment on breakfast. Didn't notice.

I read other reviews about the hotel and decided this would be fine for us since we were staying for a training class. All in all it is a very nice hotel with very spacious rooms. The attached photos were how the room was when I first walked in. Right around the hotel there's not a lot of places to eat but just down the road a few miles away there is more than enough to choose from.

This hotel is directly off I-85 at Exit 32 which is extremely convenient. You can be in downtown Charlotte when there is no traffic in about 7 or 8 minutes. The staff was very friendly to me. The hotel is only about 2 miles from the airport which is great for travelers staying for short periods of time. The only downside that I can see to this hotel is there is not a lot of parking available. Other than that I'd give the Wingate an "A".

  • Liked — Great access to I-85
  • Disliked — Not many eating areas. Have to travel a few minutes for food.

A coworker and myself stayed in this hotel for three nights. While he was able to get a non-smoking room, I was not so lucky. Very popular hotel with business travelers. The place was packed every night to the point where no more parking stalls were available in the evening and throughout the night.

Other than the strong cigarrette smell, the room was very clean and in great shape overall, with lots of room and free high-speed internet. Breakfast service was run-of-the-mill, and so was front desk service. The area around the hotel only has a few fast food restaurants (avoid Shoney's...the food was awful) and a small, shoddy-looking supermarket, so plan on driving out of the area for all your meals.

Cons:
-The windows in the room did not open; fixed glass throughout
-It is not really "at the airport", but over 1.5 miles away
-No swimming pool, only a small jacuzzi next to the main lobby

However, I would stay there again if on business.

This hotel was a real find! We needed to stay overnight in Charlotte, NC on our way to vacation in St. Maarten. Overall this hotel was excellent!

The hotel provided van transportation from and to the Charlotte Airport. Both drivers were very friendly. The front desk personnel was very helpful with a quick check-in. They were also able to accurately answer questions and respond immediately to requests we made. All of the employees and guests too were very pleasant.

The room was very nicely appointed. Very much above average for the price. Overall, the facilities were nice and well maintained. They have an outdoor pool, indoor whirlpool, exercise room, computer room, and an area for the "continental" breakfast.

The continental breakfast was not continental but an exceptional full breakfast! It included the regular breakfast items like coffee, juices, milk, cereal, muffins and breads, and in addition it had different types of cooked eggs, sausage, bacon, and make your own waffles. We were really surprised when we went down for breakfast and it was a great way to start the day!

In the lobby they had a stack of different complimentary newspapers. It was within walking distance to a few restaurants or you could call a cab which arrived in little time.

The only note of caution: There is another Wingate Inn which advertises as the Airport Wingate Inn. This is not the case. This is closest to the airport. If you call the Wingate Inn from the airport on the advertisement board you will not connect with this one, and will connect with the other one.

  • Liked — Nicely appointed room and great complimentary breakfast.
  • Disliked — Had trouble with TV remote and sound when watching a movie.

When traveling to Charlotte I usually stay at a Hampton inn, as that's where my points accumulate. However, this trip was going to keep me close to the airport so I took the advice of my business contact and booked at the Wingate. He said it was fairly new and the rate was very reasonable, so I took a chance. Afterall, it was only for one night.

I arrived around 6pm and pleasantly suprised. The lobby was nice enough, and they had comp. food and drinks out. I saw people eating what looked like chicken wings and quesadillas, saw cans of beer and glasses of wine. I can't speak to the quality of the food as I was going out to dinner than night. On the way to the elevator I passed the fitness room. Standard equipment, but it looked new and several people were using it.

My room was larger than I expected. I had booked a king non-smoking ($87.38 including tax), and walked in to a larger room than I had imagined. Inside the doorway to the right was the bathroom, and a double doored closet was on the left. Then there was a nice sized sitting area with a comfortable chair and hassack, desk with cable for internet, refrig and microwave. The bed was comfortable and the lighting was bright enough (usually I find the rooms lack adequate lighting througout).

My only complaint was that the wireless internet was at too low ove a level to use. I had to plug in, and the connection was fast enough, but not as fast as I usually get.

Can't tell you about the breakfast either, since I only grabbed an apple on my way out.

Considering the price, this place is a bargin - I will certainly stay here again in the future.
