LOCATION:
Located below Charlotte, on a side street of US Route 521, about ½ mile south of I-585 exit.
Going south on 521, turn left at the first stop light. (A lot of the buildings in this complex “look” alike and there wasn’t a lot of hotel signage and bright lights to guide you in to the front entrance.) There wasn’t much around for shopping along US 521 going south. We saw a lot of “mega-mall” activity and restaurants in a neighboring town, Pineville, while driving I-485 just west of US 521.
It took us about ½ hour to drive to downtown via I-77. It’s also 20 minutes (no traffic) to return from the I-85 airport exit near where 485 & 85 intersect on the west side of Charlotte.
FACILITIES:
We picked this facility because it had won a hotel-industry top award – and we had frequent-traveler Holiday Inn points to spend. This is an-extended stay facility of Holiday Inn. However, we just stayed one night but would have easily and comfortably stayed longer had we a reason to be in Charlotte more than overnight.
It’s a two-story long and low building in a quiet area. The hotel lobby doubles as breakfast area in the mornings and on a few nights a week (not Fridays) it’s used for a free cocktail hour of some sort. It has an indoor pool nicely maintained, and an outdoor putting carpeted area off the pool. We used the pool and sauna, but not the exercise room (nicely equipped) or the laundry facilities.
THE ROOM:
Hooray! Rooms with screened windows that open. We stayed on the 2nd floor. I wouldn’t recommend opening windows on any first floor. So if you like that feature, request the 2nd floor. Has a very-spacious sitting room that doubles as a 2nd bedroom. Fully equipped kitchen with good silverware, glasses, pots, etc. a stove top, microwave, and nice counter area to eat and prepare meals. All the chairs were comfortable, and it has a desk and internet cable for your laptop.
Immaculate housekeeping and condition of fixtures. One of the few places, I’d consider walking barefoot on the carpets. The separate bedroom was an OK size with the toilet and tub in a separate room and a sink and counter located directly outside that. The one FLAW in the design affects you only if you have people sleeping in the other room. They have to come through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. The bed/pillow combination was a bit uncomfortable – it would have been nicer to have some padding on the hard mattress. Our room was on the backside of the hotel which was very quiet. Heard absolutely no traffic noise.
STAFFING AND CHECK-IN
Quick, efficient, and friendly. They helped us with the logistics of getting into the area of Charlotte we wanted to see, and gave us some tips about streets to explore.
