This dump doesn't deserve a two-star rating. The true rating is 1 1/2 stars. We booked two rooms here because the price was reasonable and the hotel was convenient to a concert in the area that we were attending.

The lobby was neat and clean but the first thing you notice when you off the elevator on the room floors is the awful stinch. Like another reviewer posted. Smoking and non-smoking rooms on the same floor is a DON'T.

I requested two non-smoking rooms side-by-side The first room had a damaged light fixture that didn't work so I was moved to another room and unfortunately is was a smoking room. The smoke odor and air was so thick that i couldn't stay there so my traveling companion decided to stay there instead.

In one room, there was no desk chair and in the other, the chair was so filthy, we refused to sit on it.

We relaxed a bit and left out for dinner and returned to get dressed for the concert. While at the concert, I decided to go back to the room and change into more comfortable shoes. When we got there, my traveling companions key would not work. We went down and explained the situation of the room change and the key was reset. When we finally go into the room, all of my traveling companions belongings had been removed. We were in a rush to get back to the concert so we wouldn't miss the headliner so my traveling companion ran back down to get his things and was told by the night desk clerk that he needed five minutes to get the belonging. My traveling companion told him to have his things when he got back from the concert.

We went back to the concert and I immediately got on the phone with the customer service team and explained the situation. I let her know that if the belonging were not there that the police would be called upon our return. She put me on hold and called the hotel directly and spoke to the night desk clerk. I was told that all of the belongings would be at the front desk when we returned. Fortunately, everything was there.

Next morning I awake and want to take a hot shower before hitting the road for the return trip home and guess what! No hot water in the shower. Go figure. Worked fine in the sink.

During checkout I was given a 10% discount on one room but it could not make up for the bad experience that we had. We vowed to never stay at a Microtel again. We would have been better off spending $10 more via a hotel search engine and getting a three star. Lesson learned.

We reserved a room on the weekend that the NASCAR races were in Charlotte. Rooms are very hard to get when the races are in town and they are significantly higher in price also. We had all our paperwork and everything printed out and gave it to the desk clerk. His response was "no room" in his best broken English. We showed him our reservation again, asked for the manager or how to contact them, asked for a phone book so we could try to find anything else and the only answer we got was, 'no room"! We were not alone in our perdicament. There were four other parties trying to check in also, with no rooms. There was nothing we could do, so we went on the search for a room when all rooms are already booked in the local area. We finally found something that was not that nice and cost more than we had planned, but it was a bed and bath. The people at the Microtel Inn don't have a reservation policy I guess. You would think that they would, huh?!?

My daughter and I had a cheerleading competition in Durham NC and decided to hop over to Charlotte to visit Discovery Place the next day. We did not arrive until after dark and stopped by the first place we saw since we had been up since 5am and were very tired. This Microtel looks nice from the outside and I was thinking that they are not very old so it couldn't be that bad. When we checked in the Front Desk clerk was very nice. I paid about $50 for the night and made our way to the second floor to our room. The hallways were very dark and scary. We opened our door and I could not believe the condition of the room. Only one light in the whole room worked. The TV kept on re-setting itself and would not stay on any one channel. The room smelled so bad and was so nasty. The microwave made a noise like I thought it might explode. The FD clerk told us that if we needed to leave our door key would also open the door to the building. We went to get something to eat and when we came back our key did not work. There I am with a 10 year old little girl in a city we do not know standing outside this hotel with no entry. Thank goodness someone else staying there was in the lobby and came over and opened the door. This has to be one of the dirtiest places I have ever stayed. I vowed that day no matter how late it is and how tired I am I will never let myself accept and pay for somewhere as nasty as this!
