This hotel is in a beautiful area of Charlotte and is very convenient; however with that said, I believe that the prices are a little steep for what you receive in return. It's not the Ritz Carlton. The hotel is undergoing renovations, which is not mentioned anywhere on the website, nor was it mentioned by the hotel staff at check in. The rooms on the back side of the hotel overlook construction debris and dumpsters. While the drilling and banging doesn't begin until 9 AM and is generally over by 5 PM, one has to endure the construction staff tying up the already slow elevators as they wheel out large pieces of old furniture.
The new rooms are beautiful, but they are also lacking in some areas. The suites need chairs in the bedrooms and the bathrooms need some sort of towel bars installed so you don't have to fling your towel over the shower curtain rod. Also, the cable television could be beefed up with additional channels. The TV's are hooked up to Time Warner cable, but only receive a limited selection of channels. A great deal of focus was given to the flat screen Dell TV's (one in the living room, one in the bedroom) and the high-tech TV that's built into the bathroom mirror. Further attention needs to be given to the little details.
The desk clerk at check-in could have also been a little more accomodating and friendly. NO mention was made of the Hampton 100% guarantee, no mention was made about the hotel's amenities, where the elevators were located, etc. Also, this is the first Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at that doesn't have the "breakfast to go" in the brown paper bags available. Once the construction is finished and common areas are remodeled (hallways are very dated and worn looking), I think it has the potential to be a 4-star hotel with some better attention to detail. I'd stay there again once the construction is over.
