My children and I have been staying the week between Christmas and New Years to visit my mother for the last 15 years. All was well until this Christmas when they gave our suite that we had reserved six months earlier to someone else because their room was unavailable. So they gave us two one bedroom rooms across the hall from each other. However my older son had to leave two days before us to go to work, and when he got to the airport he realized that he had left his brand new HP computer that he had gotten for Christmas in his room. I immediately told the front desk and in that hour the room had been cleaned and the computer was gone. No one there seemed to care and I got a nasty letter from their management company saying not to contact the hotel directly. I had been more than nice and courteous to the hotel, so I contacted the Hilton Corporate headquarters and told them I was not interested in being reimbursed, I just wanted them to get rid of the thief they had working there and if they did not I would call the Police and they would do it. That got a response and a call and I told them that they could tell who went in the room during the hour after his departure by doing a lock audit because the plastic key locks can tell who has entered that room for six months. They said they would do that and call me back. After 2 weeks I called them and they said that the audit had proven nothing (although if you understand how the lock audit works I doubt they even tried). It is too bad because we did like this place.

The hotel itself is right in the Southpark Mall parking lot so the location is very convinient where you never really can get bored while you are there. I was there on business for six days and the rooms to me were not as clean or updated as I would have liked. They are however very spacious that have a fridge and seperate sitting area. The carpet was a little ripped up and looked old and the bathrooms were small. The food was overpriced and not very good at all. The hotel also has a very weird setup where you have to walk outdoors to go from your room to the main desk area. It's just an alright hotel which I wouldn't personally choose to stay at again.

I stayed here for a wedding last year - my first time in a DoubleTree. My expectations were low due to my lack of familiarity with the chain, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Upon arrival, the Receptionist provided me with fresh cookies as well as the wedding favors. The elevator to my room was oddly placed, but not a major inconvenience. My room featured a kitchenette, which I had no use for, but a good touch for longer term guests, as well as a dining room set-up, couch/tv area, and separate bedroom. Given the small price difference among the room options, I decided to splurge for a higher room grade and did not regret it.

The room was clean on the whole, but the carpet was slightly worn. The kitchen did not strike me as overly inviting. It neither added nor subtracted from my experience. Televisions in the sitting area and bedroom were a major plus, especially for this bleary eyed traveler.

Location of this hotel is not too strong. It is buried within a labyrinth of shopping mall roads away from the heart of Charlotte.

Bottom line - 3.5 stars with 4 star upside with slight modernization and perhaps upgrade of restaurant options. Regardless, a perfect selection for a large group function, as the pricing was optimal and the accommodations reliable.

Stayed at this hotel a week before Christmas 2008 with an adult family member. We were in Charlotte for shopping, relaxation and entertainment. The Doubletree was a perfect choice! It’s located adjacent to Southpark Mall, which contains over 130 stores, including many high-end retail. It is only five miles from uptown Charlotte (live theatre, fine restaurants, etc.), and locally there are many conveniences, such as hair salons, spa, pharmacy, and movie theatre within one-mile radius.

The hotel itself lived up to expectations. It has a quiet, comfortable elegance with a very friendly staff that seemed eager to please. The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We rented a 2-bedroom suite for $151.05 per night, which I considered a good value. Loved the Doubletree brand “Sweet Dreams” sleep experience.—Great mattress, lots of fluffy down pillows, luxurious down comforter, etc. Also enjoyed the state-of-art fitness center on site. Had some small grievances however. The fully equipped suite kitchen had no glassware, dishes, utensils, or related appointments. Although the staff happily and immediately supplied anything we requested, I would rather not have to ask. Bathroom amenities did not include a shower cap, which is pretty standard for 3-star hotels. Food at the restaurant was not memorable, and there was a mix up with our only room service order. Overall however I loved this hotel, and would highly recommend it to others.
