Loved the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte. We actually have been there twice--once just after it was newly opened in Dec. 2009, and again in January 2010. What I loved about this Ritz-Carlton is the newness of the decor. You can rely on the Ritz for outstanding service, but usually the decor is too stuffy for my taste. This Ritz is done in a sleek, Asian-inspired style with a very understated and luxurious feel.
On our first visit, we were upgraded to a corner suite (complete with doorbell and hallway espresso maker!), which we did not use, but was a very nice touch. I was so enamored with the Bulgari White Tea toiletries that I went out and bought some as soon as I got home.
The bathroom is superb; it has a good layout and even a projection TV in the mirror, with more than adequate lighting. The rooms are chic and the beds are, of course, comfortable.
My only complaint is that, located in downtown Charlotte, many rooms don't have much of a 'view', as you are often looking down on someone's roof or parking lot. However, the proximity to all the downtown nightlife and restaurants cannot be beat.
It was nice being greeted by name consistently as you came and went by the front desk staff and the doormen. Kind of a treat.
We also enjoyed cocktails in the lounge area next to the fire on a cold night. There were some jazz musicians set up which made for an enjoyable prelude to our dinner out.
At the Ritz, you generally can't go wrong, and this is no exception. Highly recommended.
