If you have a layover in CLT, I highly recommend the Microtel. For around $50 per night, you get a free shuttle bus, a nice continental breakfast, 24-hour coffee and tea, a really comfy bed, free wi-fi in the room, along with unexpected amenities like a hair dryer in the room , friendly staff, and a million cable channels.

This isn't a place that you'd want to stay in if you need to be downtown, but for an airport hotel - they exceeded expectations! Everything you need for one night - including several restaurants within walking distance and several delivery choices.

I slept with my clothes on (thank goodness I had brought my own pillow). When I pulled the covers back to get ready for bed, in between the pillows was a used DIRTY rag. We had just flown into the airport at 3am and did not have the energy to go to the front desk and demand a different room. So for the few hours of sleep we were going to get anyway we made the best of it. Never again will I stay there. Who knows what that rag cleaned up!!!

The first room I was in was indescribably disgusting. So I went to the front desk to get a cleaner room. The second room was a modest improvement. I found a beer bottle cap in the shower drain, pubic hairs all over the bed, soiled sheets, dirty towels, and a smoke-free room that reeked of smoke. Awesome. I'm so glad that I spent four hours of my life earning the wages to pay for this dump. Seriously do not stay here. Remember this one thing: Many viruses can live outside the body on surfaces such as sheets and dirty towels for hours or even days. The reviews that suggest this place is an alright place to stay are straight up lies. Probably the owner just trying to boost the ratings. If you have any sense at all, you are saying to yourself "You had me at pubic hairs" and have already moved on to another hotel.

For the money, this hotel passes my standards. The room was clean, the air conditioner worked well, and the shower was fine. The lobby area was a little messy, but I don't stay there, I stay in the room. Some of the staff didn't have the most pleasant of personalities, but with that kind of job, I can understand. I was given a tour of a random room before I paid, and I was assured the air conditioner worked well, which is a biggie for me. One thing I couldn't understand was why we smelled cigarette smoke upon entering our room. I think it possibly came from the room above. It wasn't bad enough to change rooms though. I would stay here again.
