I was a bit skittish about staying here after reading the review about the airplane noise but that is only a problem if you are OUTSIDE the hotel. You can't hear it if you are inside, esp. if the heat/AC is running.
This hotel caters to the business travelers and I noticed a lot of airline employees were staying here, too. That was good news because it normally means you get quiet neighbors who go to bed at a decent hour. There's a good variety of breakfast items for the buffet: waffles ( u make) cereal, fruit, yogurt, breakfast burritos, etc.
We were going on vacation for a week and I would not want to park my car just anywhere in Charlotte for that long. But I felt that due to the hotel's location (which is right behind a Shoney's) leaving it at the Country Inn it was probably as safe as leaving it the airport lot. Before you depart, the hotel has you park right out in front of the the building where people come and go constantly and the parking lot itself very well lit.
The whole process went very smoothly until our return flight landed we tried to get a ride BACK from the airport to pick up the car. I called the hotel immediately after we retrieved our baggage and they told me it would be 15 to 20 minutes. However, it took them 40 minutes to show up, even though the hotel is only five or six miles from the aiport.
Maybe that doesn't sound just TOO bad. But when it's late and you've been sitting on an airplane for five hours, you're gritty, and hungry and jet-lagged, your one overriding thought is just getting HOME ASAP, not standing on a curb with your luggage for what seems like forever, watching vans from other hotels (Marriott, Sheraton, etc. ) make their SECOND round of pickups.
Finally, I called the hotel a SECOND time and the driver showed up about 20 minutes later. And apparently, this kind of nonchalent service is not a rare thing with the Country Inn; I heard our female van driver tell an airline employee who rode back from the airport with us that the male van driver is never on time either because he often swings by to pick up an order of ribs before he makes his airport pickup. They were laughing about it, but by that time I'd pretty much lost my sense of humor.
So my advice is, if you plan on taking a shuttle to the airport, do yourself a favor and stay at another hotel that actually offers some service after the sale. Otherwise, you might as well prepare yourself for a good looooonnnng wait.
