I have been staying at the Charlotte Homestead Suites for a little over three weeks now. I have a feeling most of the people who leave good reviews haven't stayed longer than a day.
The hotel is cheap, and for the most part, you get what you pay for. Being a studio suites hotel, this hotel does have some extras: the usual, plus a sink, full fridge (which is nice), small assortment of dishes, two burner range top, and a microwave. However, there are no ice machines (just ice trays), no pool, not much of anything besides what is in the room. The front office is just a small room, next to which is what they call a pantry, where you can purchase various overpriced food items. The beds are fairly uncomfortable (very solid mattresses) and the sheets feel cheap. Overall, my rooms have been fairly clean, but don't count on the dishes being clean when you arrive. Wash them yourself before using them.
As for the staff, some are friendly, however, more often than not, if you need something and call the front desk, they are nowhere to be found. I have also had the staff hang up on me more than once when I called them for a pick up from the airport. This is only after I was there for a while though. They advertise that they have a shuttle can that can bring you wherever you need to go, within a certain mile limitation (either 3 or 5 miles?). However, that shuttle also serves two other hotels, so more often than not, the shuttle will not be available. Usually, if I needed to go to Walmart for some groceries, I had to wait until 10pm or else call a taxi and drop $10 for a timely ride to the store.
So, overall, if you plan on staying for more than a few days, look elsewhere, unless the price is the only governing factor. The customer service is not that good and the rooms are mediocre. I am here on company business, so I have no choice in hotel. Customer service is important to me and is what can make me a lifelong customer or lifelong hater. So, to sum up, Homestead Suites = cheap but NOT a bargain. You are getting exactly what you pay for.
