The Levine Museum of the New South was quite a wonderful experience. Its displays, regarding the change of the south were impeccably thorough. Replicas of churchs, stores, homes, cotton, even clothes of the time was fabulously done.

The facility was beautiful and well kept, with its light wood floors and skylight located between the exhibits and the staff was very relaxed and friendly.

My only complaint, as a woman of color, were a few of the captions under some of pictoral displays. Oftentimes there were racial distinctions that I felt were not necessary. For example, a white family was listed as "Family on sharecroping farm." Or white children playing was depicted as "Children Playing". While those pictures of families of color were listed as "Negro family on farm." or "Negro children playing". It is obvious from the pictures the racial distinctions. I just found it uneccesary to post all of the pictures using a terminology, "negro", that does not accurately represent our culture. African-American would have been more appropriate.
As beautiful as the new south is, hard habits are hard to change. (I mean who uses the term nego since the abolishment of Jim Crow).

Overall, it was a wonderful learning experience for both me and my entire family, from my eight year old to my forty-five year old husband. Its a must see.
