“If you want to interact with Charlotte's coming onto the National scene...”

If you want to understand the important points of recent history (post Civil War) that make up Charlotte's character, go here! They present the area's history in a honest, non-bias and interactive manner that's interesting and poignant for all ages whether a born and bread citizen of NC (like myself), newcomer and/or visitor. Also have great free public activities and special rotating exhibits. Go on Sundays when its always free!

“Fascinating experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

If you want to know about American history in the south, this is a great place to visit. It may have full of cotton-pickers at one time, but industry and invention took over. Cities and industry benefitted greatly from the railroad, and modern technology and finance are its main staples today. After your visit you will come away with a better understanding of this part of the USA. Gripes: some of the mechanical models do not work properly and signing needs improving.

“Flashback to Charlotte's Past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

My wife and I enjoyed our trip through this museum a lot. We were visiting for the first time and it was a great way to learn about the history of the city from the Civil War to present. We really liked the replica sit-in dinner that talked about the areas role in the civil right movement.

“Interesting museum”

While not a large museum, we enjoyed visiting here. We learned about the South as it was and is now. You need about 2 hours to see it all.

“Must Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Whether you are visiting Charlotte, or are a new or lifetime resident, you must visit the Levine Museum of the New South. The permanent exhibit about the history and modern progression of the Charlotte / Piedmont area is first class, very well organized, extremely informative and offers many opportunities to watch / listen to news reels, videos, recorded interviews and music. The exhibit covers the diversity of trade, commerce, people, religion as well as the civil rights movement. The museum staff said it would take about an hour; well I enjoy reading and learning so I spent about two hours going through the exhibit. Upstairs there was a good collection of old photographs, the museum shop is small yet offers a wide variety of merchandise; overall it was time well spent.
