We were passing through Charlotte, and needed a place to stay. We considered one of the larger hotels because we were just starting our honeymoon. But since we were only spending one night there it didn't make sense to pay three times as much. Nevertheless, we were a bit nervous when the free shuttle pulled into the parking lot.
The shuttle driver was a bit salty and the location looked pretty sketchy - but we had chosen the hotel in the first place because we love Mexican food and the adjacent Azteca restaurant seemed promising.
The front desk clerk was very friendly, and the lobby looked like it had recently been updated. In fact, our room appeared to be updated as well. I've read other reviews that complained about the rooms being old/dirty. However, it looks like the renovations have rectified those problems.
Now, I am somewhat biased towards Mexican food - so if you love it then I highly recommend staying here and eating at the Azteca. It was the highlight of our stay! Not only was it clean and fun, but they even had a lady come around with a cart and who made fresh guacamole!
We slept great and the grounds are pretty quiet. What initially seemed like the wrong choice turned out to be a real gem. I remember my wife and I saying while we were in the restaurant that we have to go on TripAdvisor as soon as we get home to talk the place up. Of course, if you want to see downtown Charlotte, this is not the place - but if you need a place to crash for the night take another look at this one, you won't regret it!
