We were there for Saturday night, July 5, on our way home for early flight the next day. Good location for the airport, no noise. The hotel staff was very helpful and gives each person a warm delicious chocolate chip cookie upon check in. The hotel is very new and clean. The hallways are well lit, spacious and very clean and new. The room was just fine. Granite counters in bathroom. Comfortable bed, good shower. High speed internet in room for only $10/day, self parking is only $10/day. We got a AAA discount. The room was only $85. It was a very convenient stay in Charlotte.
We recommend it to others. It was in a good neighborhood.

  • Liked — new and clean and convenient location
  • Disliked — pet friendly - was our bathtub used previously to bath a dog?

I booked this hotel because of the proximity to Discovery Place and other local attractions. My 4 year old son and I were meeting my husband (who is in military training in GA) halfway and I liked the reviews I read on a few sites.

I can't begin to tell you how incredible the service was from the second we checked in to the second we left. They gave my husband a second parking pass to the garage at no charge. They 'mapquested' and printed out directions for us when we asked about liquor stores or pizzerias in the area. When my son came down with a stomach virus on the second night, and we had to ask for another bed sheet, they called back to make sure he was OK. That in itself will make me come back to this hotel AND recommend it to anyone going to Charlotte.

The food was good...the cookies were DELICIOUS!!..and the service was great! My son is a bit shy, but when the waitress brought out a Mickey Mouse pancake during our 'first' breakfast there, he completely warmed up to everyone! She told me she had a surprise for him, but I didn't know what it was. On the day we were leaving they gave us a couple of large Starbucks coffees to go and were as friendly then as they were when we first checked in.

Oh yeah...and the rooms were extremely clean (one of my pet peeves) and sooooo comfortable.

I haven't had a stay like this in a hotel in a long time...and we do a lot of traveling.

After staying in "proper" Hiltons and Hyatts, I was a little dubious of the Doubletree, but it was near my client's office. And the rooms were definitely lower end than Hilton-branded properties although still very well appointed (but with extremely loud air conditioning units!). Nothing wrong with the rooms....just a little dated.

What makes me give this hotel four stars is the service. From the second we hit check in we were greeted with super service from Adam (didn't mind the delicious chocolate chip cookie either!) and very good advice on local amenities. Because we arrived on a Sunday, we ate in the hotel as most uptown restaurants were closed - and we weren't sorry we did. The food was reasonably priced, plentiful, healthy, special orders were no trouble and the delightful Faith, our waitress, made us very welcome.

On the second night, I was working in the business centre to get out of my room for a while, when the computer crashed and I lost the work I was doing. I was quite angry, but I couldn't have asked for a better staff response. The front desk manager, Chellie, immediately waived the in-room internet charge and sent up a voucher for free room service appetisers for my colleague and I who were going to have to work late as a result of the error.

I'm probably more of a big hotel girl when I'm travelling for business, but I'd stay here again. The staff really did make the difference in what probably would have been an otherwise unremarkably (but perfectly acceptable) stay. They're aiming for 10s, as their current campaign says. I think they're achieving them.

  • Liked — The staff. All of them. And the Doubletree trademark chocolate chip cookies!
  • Disliked — Noisy air conditioning units in room

We chose this hotel because we wanted to stay in the city of Charlotte, but for as inexpensively as possible. This hotel fit the bill as we were able to get a good deal on priceline.

The hotel is on the edge of the city, but Charlotte's downtown is small so to get to where the restaurants and bars are located you will only have a short 10-15 minute walk. It is also right off Rt. 77 so to travel to other parts of the city by car is easy.

The rooms were clean and the cookies are very good. The elevators are really slow, but it wouldn't prevent me from staying there again. If you are checking out Johnson & Wales, I would stay here, it's right next door.
