“Good property, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

We've stayed here several times. It is an older property and isn't your usual Hampton Inn design. Half the rooms are upstairs and you need to use stairs. But it is quiet, convenient to campus and Chapel Hill, and we've had very good prices for our stays. The breakfast is good, the service above average. We have found it to be an excellent value for stays in the Chapel Hill area and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room to avoid stairs.

Excellent price , very clean room , comfortable bed and the air conditioner on an extremely hot day worked very well! Staff was extremely nice and helpful , actually went way beyond my expectations. I will be back!

Room Tip: If you can't climb stairs be sure and request 1st floor , my request was honored , no problem.

I am a big fan of Hilton brand hotels. I always have gotten excellent service from all of the staff employed. This hotel was no exception. The staff was friendly and full of usefull information.
I had to stay for 1 week to attend a school for my employer. As a place to stay to just spend the night is was adequate. My only concern and it is one the hotel can't really fix, is that the access is all exterior. As a woman going on her own I would have felt more comfortable with interior doors.
The rooms however were adequately clean, although I think new carpeting would definitely spruce up the place and make it feel fresher.

Very nicely renovated former motel (all exterior corridor access), convenient to UNC Chapel Hill. Updated furnishings and bathrooms, comfortable beds and pillows. Quiet to the outside in spite of the motel-style layout. Free wireless, breakfast. No need for more just for an overnight. Hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful.

I had expected that this hotel would not be top-notch, given the price in comparison with the better hotels in the area. I had also read other reviews. In terms of the price, this hotel is far better than the Red Roof Inn, but not as comfortable as I would have liked. I was pleased to see the room was clean. However, we had a first floor room, and it was quite damp. It may be that the air-conditioning was not operating well--it was extremely hot outside. While they advertise a "Hampton Bed", that may have been true for the linens, but the mattress was not all that comfortable. I really liked the fact that they said they washed the comforter after each guest. This aspect of the bedding was far better than the situation at many low price hotels. The breakfast was fine--although the service area was small.
Chapel Hill is relatively expensive in terms of hotels--probably because the presence of the University keeps even expensive places busy. If you want to pay a lower price and don't mind settling for less in terms of creature comforts, this may be fine for you.

Room Tip: The front desk said that first floor rooms are the most in demand. However, our room was damp, so a...

Stayed here for three nights in May. Room was good value, particularly with free parking, internet and breakfast. Ideally located for visiting Chapel Hill, with Durham and Raleigh both within 30 mins drive. The room was a good size and clean. No in-room safe though. The only real downside was that the window didn't let in a huge amount of natural light.

Always seems to be among the lowest price "decent" hotel in the area, you can quickly understand why when you stay here. This is one of the old outside room entry Hampton properties that they haven't built in 20+ years. The rooms just don't meet the look of what a traveler needs nowadays. Desk is always right beside the AC unit so you get blasted by air when you're trying to work at the desk. Noisier from outside noise than you experience at hotels nowadays. Wallpaper is peeling off the walls, comforter just looked old, period. Hampton's use of these old heavy, heavy, heavy comforters is just silly. They're way too warm except in the coldest conditions and they're so heavy that they're uncomfortable to lie under. Please, Mr. Hilton, find an alternative to these things.
