“A beautiful historic inn, in the heart of UNC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We stayed at the inn overnight on 12/8. A family friend's son got married in Durham, and the wedding reception was in the ballroom of the inn that night.
What a gorgeous place!
Staff is very accommodating, efficient and helpful. They gave several recommendations for lunch or dinner nearby.
On site valet parking or self parking, same price.
The inn is currently being refurbished. One wing is closed. The wing we stayed in has been updated, and is well appointed. Rooms are very clean, cozy and beautiful. Beds are super comfy. Nice and quiet. A small fridge is in a large secretary on one wall. Wi-fi, free, throughout. Desk, armoire, chair, suitcase valet and nightstands. The bathrooms are clean, tiled and beautiful.
Our beds were turned down at night.
We had a farewell brunch on Sunday morning, food was delicious.
Free coffee is served and ready in one of the wings every morning.
The inn was fully decorated for the holidays. There was a Sunday holiday brunch for families going on, and everyone looked so festive.
It was a beautiful place for a wedding reception.
We loved our stay, and would go back in a heartbeat.

My wife and I dropped the kids off at my parents house and we stayed at The Carolina Inn over Thanksgiving, 2012. The hotel has a wonderful ambiance. Our room was well appointed and the bathroom was modern, clean and fairly spacious. We arrived from Chicago early on Thanksgiving day and were hungry so wife and I had a pre Thanksgiving dinner at the buffet and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The buffet was fresh, offered a broad selection, was fresh and everything we tried was delicious. We travel a fair amount and always try to stay in nice hotels. It will always be the Carolina Inn for us when we are in Chapel Hill!

Room Tip: Select an upgraded or deluxe room. The standard rooms are fairly small.

This is the place to stay in Chapel Hill. Undoubtedly, the best part of this hotel is the location. It's on the UNC campus. The next best part is the history of the hotel. I loved seeing all the UNC memorabilia throughout the hotel. The entire place has a very traditional feeling. Very Southern and genteel. The staff were all professional and courteous.

Our room was a very large king room that seemed to be recently renovated. While the room was very comfortable, we did have some problems regulating the temperature. The air vent was blowing directly towards us. We kept adjusting the temp throughout the night. We were either freezing or roasting and that didn't make for great sleep.

I highly recommend the restaurant and bar in the hotel.

Beautiful inn on a lovely campus. A must for all alumnae. Full of warm memories and beautiful furnishings. The hallways are nicely done with plush seating areas and photos and histories of accomplished alumnae and notable events

Room Tip: A mid sized to large room is best as the smaller rooms are a bit tiny. All are furnished nicely

We came here twice in a short time. The service and hospitality were excellent. The first stay was excellent- charming room, good breakfast, great location. However on the second stay we were "upgraded" to room 230 adjacent to the elevator and were subjected to very loud, jarring noise throughout the night. The room was pretty, well set up but it really was a very unpleasant experience.

Room Tip: Avoid room 230!

Facilities, staff, and ambience were awesome. The dining room was a pleasure to experience. The food and wine list were truly excellent. The breakfast buffet was a real treat. The room was small but beautifully appointed and had wi-fi and chargers.

Room Tip: You might pay extra, but ask for a newly-renovated room.

If you are looking to stay in the heart of Chapel Hill close to Franklin St and are wanting to avoid a chain hotel, this is the place for you! We have stayed twice in three months there and look forward to our next overnight trip there!
