We dined here recently for two reasons. It was rated very high on Tripadvisor and Open Table and it was located in the hotel we were staying at (that will be another review-a very elegant and beautiful hotel). While we enjoyed our dinner here we felt that it was a bit overrated. The food was good and nicely presented, but it was not a "wow" for us. It's almost like they try too hard to be different by including some unusual ingredients in common dishes that don't add anything to the dish and make it a bit strange. The best part of our meal was the starter, which was a Gnocchi dish. It was delicious, but it too contained a strange grain or seed that we'd never heard of before and gave the yummy sauce an odd texture and look. My main (chicken) was nothing special and with an odd texture as well. And my husband’s steak, which was supposed to be medium rare had something on it (we think) to make it look red on the outside (rare) while the inside was more cooked (note we do dine out a lot and my husband is an adventurous eater). The servers seemed a bit inexperienced as well. Lots of them, but service was slow and not very attentive. Having said all that though the room itself is beautiful and you feel special just being there. And the food was good, but just not what we expected from a fine dining restaurant like this. However, they certainly give you all the little extras (amuse bouche, palate cleanser, chocolates and take home treats) that you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Would we return? Probably, but we would be more apt to return to "An," which was our favourite during our recent stay in Cary, NC (note that we also went to Herons for breakfast and brunch. The service at this time was also slow and not that attentive and the food was just so so).
