My husband and I were excited to find an oyster bar nearby that didn't seem too pricey and had good reviews. Since moving to the triangle area of NC we've had some wonderful wonderful meals out. We went to tony's for a special night out. The hostesses and waitress were awesome. However, we ordered raw oysters, which we've eaten a lot of, but these looked funky, were extremely chewy and dirty tasting--not like fresh out of the sea dirty, just dirt. Then, we tried the lobster queso--I am almost positive that was velvet and some spices, didn't taste or see lobster pieces. For entrees, I ordered the clam and shrimp pasta. Shrimp was undercooked and slimy, the clams were similar to the oysters--missing the good "sea" taste and instead tasting like dirt. Little pieces of shell were in the pasta, too. They didn't do anything to make it look more appealing either--black plates didn't quite do it. My husband went with fried oysters and flounder. Flounder was fine! Scallops were again undercooked and tasted nothing like scallops--odd. Coleslaw and fries were very good, though!
We don't like to complain so we mostly kept our disappointment to ourselves (With the exception of the appetizers at first) and just declined a doggy bag. We were able to go out for ice cream for "dinner" instead afterwards.
Anyway, if you want good oysters and sea food in the area--go with 42nd street oyster bar in Raleigh--a bit more pricey, but certainly worth it. At least we have a funny story--by the end of our "special dinner" the food just became funny to us.
The high point was definitely the service, which kept me from giving it just the one star.
