“A Good Burger Joint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We were craving burgers and fries and found just the place for it! We tried the Shroom and Tsunami burgers..each moist, char grilled and delicious. I had the hand cut chips and he the fries, each seasoned and a nice compliment to the burger. Thanks Hang Ten!

“Scaled-down Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

In June, I was "shocked and amazed" by the best burger-and-fries experience I've had in more than four years of coming down here 5-10 times a year. This time, a mixed experience: the burger was again the best we've had in the area: fresh ground beef, hand-shaped, char-grilled as ordered. The service and the rest missed more than a beat, though: the great burger deserved a better bun; this one was pretty bad - white-white and flavorless. Nicely cut fries were really soggy and some quite greasy (last time they were crisped to perfection - heat up your oil, guys!). The unsweetened ice tea came out sweet and had to be returned. Had to ask twice for a glass for my (excellent) Harpoon IPA. Had to ask for the pickle spears that were supposed to come out with the burgers. We were on the deck outside - obviously out of sight, out of mind - and waited nearly a half hour between ordering and the arrival of burgers and fries - could the kitchen actually have been that slow? - and our server never poked her head outside to reassure us/apologize/etc. that "food was on the way."

Will we return? Sure. Terrific burger, nice (albeit short) beer list (should stock a few more IPAs, a few other beer types), decent wine by glass. Presume this was simply a bad server night, probably a newbie, didn't seem to have a clear sense of how a server "serves" and seemed oblivious to to the fact that she wasn't getting it done. (And you shouldn't have to spend the entirety of your time between ordering and the arrival of food in a conversation about "where's my glass?" "where'd our server go?...oh there she is, making three trips to the table on the other side of the window...") She did, however, get picked up more than a few times by a more experienced young woman who was working the counter inside but was also running tables - she got the pickles, gave me the glass, came out with the check that our server asked us if we were ready for, then seemed to forget about. We still like Hang Ten, and maybe it's now out-of-season time and things are a little different, but we'll be back, hoping for better customer care.

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Was recommended by desk clerk for a burger & fries. How bad can it be? Average at worst everywhere? Fries came from the kitchen undercooked and literally swimming in grease. So much that the hamburger bun was inedible. Place was not busy or near closing & staff was indignant that food was not satisfactory. Just not worth the effort. Avoid. Better food at any fast food joint but there are lots of choices nearby. Try them.

“Just average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

My husband and I were really excited to try Hang Ten because of the positive reviews, but we can't figure out what the fuss is all about. We grabbed dinner the first night we were in town and although our waitress was friendly and the atmosphere seemed fun, the food was just o.k. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and there was absolutely no flavor; just some cut-up chicken, cheese between two tortillas. We tried again a few days later for breakfast and again was disappointed. We not only had to wait 45 minutes for some pancakes and eggs, but again there was nothing special about the food. Eating out on the patio was enjoyable and the place was brightly decorated, but I couldn't recommend it.

“Great food and value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Decided to try Hang Ten Grill since it was close to our vacation condo. I had the Shroom Burger with hand cut fries and my husband ordered wings with Alan's Hang Ten Sauce, and a side salad. My burger was delicious, had lots of mushrooms, and the side of fries was more than enough for both of us, and not greasy at all. The wings were large and the sauce wasn't too hot, but had a nice "kick". My husband said they were the best wings he's had in North Carolina, and he loves wings! We sat outside on the deck and met the owner, Jeff who's a personable guy. They also have free Wifi. We'll be back on our next vacation!
