“Clean, nice oceanview, all the basics were there. A comfortable, traditional obx beach motel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2 bath oceanview round cottage with a den and kitchen area. It appears this motel owns quite a bit of property, and I think a pool, but I am not sure. All was neat and clean. The kitchen was more than adequate, nice full size refrigerator, oven and microwave, even a small dishwasher. Everything was there to cook a meal. The bathroom and the 1 bedroom we used was clean. No problems, even checked the mattress first. Surprisingly the bath towels were nice and soft too. I had expected stiff cardboard motel towels. We are used to a tv in the bedroom, there was only 1 in the den. That wasn't a problem, but it would be a better appointed place to include tv's in both bedrooms. The interaction we had with the front desk was limited, but all employees were extremely nice.

We stayed in the upper level one of the rounds very close to the surf, which is the best part of the experience.

No, this place isn't somebody's high-end vacation rental. It's much more cozy than that, and certainly lacks that finer touch. But the price is much, much more reasonable than most rentals on this island with no view of the water.

The beds, as has been described, leave much to be desired. They are no better than a Motel 6. That is a downsize. In the room my wife and I stayed, we were forced to push the two singles together.

The rooms are dated, with older carpeting and a 70s or 80s feel, but you're not coming here for the room. It's the beach, beach, beach. It's a quick drive to the tallest lighthouse in the U.S. Pets are also allowed for a separate charge. The kitchens are stocked with pots and pans.

We stayed in the upper level of the second round cottage (unit 252) and found the king-sized bed in the master unsleepable. After 3 nights of sleeping for 3 hours and then sitting up in the living room for the rest of the night, I finally moved to the second bedroom and slept on one of the double beds. "Great" romantic get-away with the hubby!! NOT! One of the double beds was okay but as the wind circled the round house, it whistled right outside that bedroom...all night long. Then there was the trash pickup at 3:30am three times during the week we were there followed up by the loud fishermen that moved in downstairs towards the end of our week-long stay which were clearly heard throughout the night coming in and out. Getting home from our vacation was such a relief!

The house itself is nothing special...don't expect someone's vacation home rental property. The decor definitely is geared toward minimal loss if someone trashes the place. Maybe that's "OBX" style, I don't know. The deck overlooking the ocean was the absolutely best part with comfortable, poly-wood deck furniture. The specs state that this unit can sleep 6. It'll be a very tight fit. There were only two of us and I shutter at the thought of adding more people into this unit. The living room furniture (1 sofa and 1 love seat - not especially comfortable) would only accomodate 5 and then only if everyone sat straight up.

I don't agree with the negative reviews of this place based on the house services. If you rent a hotel room, you expect hotel-room service (daily maid service, fresh towels, etc.) If you rent a cottage or a house, then you are forego the daily intrusion in favor of privacy. Nobody bothers you but you wash your own linens and this establishment makes that very easy as they provide washer/dryer for each cottage. The kitchen is well stocked as far as pot, pans, plates, glasses, & cooking utensils. Bring your own paper towels, trash bags, & toilet paper. There's enough to get you started, but after that you're on your own. The hotel spells out very specifically what they expect from their house guests...leave the unit trash free and in the same condition as you found it. We had NO problem with this...it is what we expected.

There is no charge for internet service, however you have to hook up to area wireless networks. The internet in our unit was slow but at least it was there. We got a better link to another local business' wireless internet service than the hotel's.

Overall, if you're looking for comfort, I definitely would not recomment this unit. However, the location of the hotel is great, the views are terrific and good restaurants & souvenier shopping are within walking distance so I might try a hotel room next time and see if there's an improvement.

Our family of 7 just returned from a 5 day stay in Villa #234. We had a wonderful time! Extremely helpful staff, especially Mary and Tracey. From the first phone call to check in to handling any issues we had with the unit, everyone seemed eager to please. The beds were very comfortable! My daughters have even said since returning home that they miss their bed at the beach!! Plenty of fresh towels every day in the towel exchange with a very sweet Hispanic lady. (I don't remember her name). Carpet was worn and on the dirty side, so we used the vacuum they provided quiet a bit. Time for some deep cleaning after the summer rush! I'd recommend replacing to tile or something more beach friendly. But the unit as a whole was clean. Loved sitting out on the deck looking at the water, enjoyed the hot tub and pool area. This unit does provide a good view from the deck though we didn't know till arrival that the power lines and the resort next door would block the Northern view. There were a few issues and the minor repairs were addressed the next morning. Met several guests that have been coming for many years. Can see why as you are treated like family. Definitely would stay here again!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lighthouse View Motel. We stayed in a one-bedroom villa, unit 318, and were delighted. The living space was roomy, and two televisions in the unit cut down on disagreements over what to watch at night. The unit was clean and well appointed. And as a bonus, the king sized bed in the master bedroom was incredibly comfortable. Be sure to read the policies section on the website. It will eliminate surprises like the laundry exchange, etc. Most of the "bad" reviews I've read appear to be based on a lack of knowledge about the policies. It's all there in black and white. We would definitely recommend this property to others. A great place to stay. Be sure to eat at Captain's Table (skip Dolphin's Den), and the Island Perks diner across the street has a great breakfast - and really friendly people.

My wife and I spent three nights at this lovely hotel on the beach recently. The only complaint we have is that we couldn't stay longer. The staff was extremely friendly, the room(unit 626) was perfect!! We loved the wrap around deck on our building, and the fact that we were on the 3rd floor gave us the perfect view of the ocean. We travel quite a bit through the southeast, and this was by far the most relaxing, enjoyable vacation we've had in years.
I would (and have) strongly recommend this hotel to any friend or family member. We will definitely be back
