“So clean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Cape pines motel receives an excellent rating from me because it far exceeded my expectations of a typical motel stay. I can't think of anything that could have made our stay more pleasant. The staff I encountered was friendly and offered up information about the area, the room was much larger than expected with comfortable beds and so clean! We enjoyed the pool and had a wonderful stay at this motel. I highly recommend a stay here!

I stayed in rm 23 which was a king size bed on the 2nd floor above the check-in area and didn't have some of the issues other reviewers stated with tiny bathrooms and smokers outside their rooms.
There was a smoking area on the balcony outside the entrance to the building which is separated by a space where there is no smoking. Other areas of the motel might be setup differently. My spacious room faced the front of the street so no large utility towers to look at as others have stated as well.
The bed was kind of stiff/hard but I actually found it to be more comfortable for my back than my soft bed at home. The wireless internet was down when I checked in. I called the front desk who was quick to help. The room was clean as was the bathroom. One thing I noticed was the cheap hollow core door for the entrance to my room. I felt like anyone could easily break into it by just pushing hard enough on it or using a credit card to pick the lock. I'm sure it seldom, if ever, happens but it doesn't give me any sense of security.
Overall, I was happy with it but didn't like the $156 a night price tag for what was a very basic room but it was cheaper than most places in the area. Supply and demand - what do you do?

Room Tip: If the view from your room is a concern, you might want to ask if it faces the utility towers. You m...

If you are looking for fancy and modern, you won't find it here. You will find a charming old motel with a beachy feel and so clean it could pass the white glove test. The staff was friendly and knowledgable about the area. They even offered a guest freezer and there was a refridgerator and a microwave in the room. This place is .7 miles from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. The internet was iffey at best, but I honestly cannot complain about this motel.

This was our second stay at this wonderful, little motel where pets are treated like the part of the family that they are! This is an older place although there is obvious care being taken. Seriously, every time we looked the owner was present and overseeing some small maintenance issue. The pool is sparkling clean and grounds well kept--mowed with indigenous plantings tended to. I can't understand any of the previous poor reviews. This is a laid back, no frills beach motel so don't expect manicured plantings and five star service. It is, after all, the Outer Banks where people come to experience the unspoiled, natural beauty of this coastal region!
Pet friendly rooms are immaculate with hardwood flooring and great care was taken to preserve the original board and batten stained wood siding in our room. The bathroom was small--vintage aqua/black tile--but water pressure was good and the room had plenty of extra counter or table top space to make up for what the bathroom was missing. AC worked great and we had small frig, coffee maker, and microwave. Ice and freezer space available to guests next to office, enclosed pet yard that includes a horseshoe pit, picnic table, and grill, rustic swing set, and backdoor wooded trail to the "Old Gray House Gift Shop" are among the small things that make this place special. Any small request or question was greeted with a smile-(BTW, they have hair dryers if you ask) We will return!

We had pondered staying here 2 years ago on our OBX trip as we ventured from South to North to meet family in Nags Head. This year, we decided to stay here for a couple of days on our way North. Glad we did and we'll certainly be back...maybe for a week next time! Very clean room, friendly service, and just enough amenities, for a reasonable price. Buxton/Cape Pines Motel is located in a great location for access to beautiful beaches and Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. A grocery store is located across the street for easy access to get supplies. We'll be back and will make this part of our annual OBX trip!!

Extremely clean, well run, pet friendly motel! We had to alter plans due to Hurricane Arthur and Angie was able to accomodate us for the night with less than 12 hours notice! Have never stayed in such a clean place that allows pets.....even the pet areas were immaculate! And to top it all off, my son left his brand new sneex in the room and they called me when they cleaned the room to come and get them. 5 star service! Highly recommend:)

My husband & I recently stayed at the Cape Pines for a second time (first time was 3 years ago) - it's a great little spot to stay, we'd highly recommend it to others. It's nothing fancy, but the room was clean and quiet, and reasonably priced. It's become our "go to" motel when passing through this area of the Outer Banks, and I'm sure we'll be returning there again at some point in the future.
