“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2009

The room was fine, we could have our dog there. Neat mini museum in the office with lots of local history. The manager is a wealth of information about the local area. Pool was large and clean. A little worn around the edges but fine for us.

It is a very affordable motel, We took our 2 dogs and stayed in a effiency. The rooms were
a little worn, they did not clean the pool the entire time we were there. It's in a great location, the grass needed mowing and the second morning we were there a 3 inch
water bug was in our bed. The staff was nice. If you go to there website it looks nothing
like the pictures. We left one day early, we were not happy with it.

We've been coming to Hatteras Island for many years now and we plan to continue. We like to stay at the Falcon Motel (which is now named Croatoan Inn). It is not a fancy place to stay but it is very relaxing. There are great restaurants and places to shop all within walking distance. Our only real complaint this year was the pool wasn't very clean. We had to buy a net to skim the pool ourselves. And the only other drawback to our stay was the mosquitos. They were voracious!!

We thought the location was good, with 2 gas stations, auto parts store, gift shops and a few restaurants within walking distance.A putt putt & icecream shop right next door...and a small grocery Conner's just a mile away.We paid less than $600 for seven nights..
BUT..."BEWARE"
The rooms were not secure it is a 1950's motel with glass painted over in the door and only a doorknob lock. The carpet looked clean and we had one double bed with microwave and apt size refrigerator..and coffeemaker.
Grounds are not kept trimmed or landscaped..pool not maintained daily..There were only cushions for 2 chairs and 4 lounges ..looked abandoned when we pulled in..
.When taking a shower I noticed Black mold all over ceiling and going under the wall paper..Outside it looks as the the roofs need repaired as many shingles were missing.. The cable tv 11 channels only worked for 2 days then went to 4 limited channels .They had little occupancy while we were there due to the economy with the Nat'l Parks Wildlife Div closing down some beaches and good fishing area's because of some turtles or bird eggs that were rare!! Climbed the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse 248ft good view.. about mile away..Beach 1/2 mile away ..
Be sure to eat at the Island Perks Diner just north of Motel..everythings Homemade and tasty!!Breakfasts, lunch and just started serving Dinner menu was wonderful.. we ate several meals at the Diamond Shouls Restaurant and had stomach upset and gas for 3 days..food was ok,but not the best bang for your buck! Eat at Island perks breakfast menu (example) 3 eggs bacon&sausage homefries & homemade biscuit for$7.99 Homemade desserts, and special brewed coffee also has a wonder atmosphere with gift shop ,very relaxing there with calm Island music..must see!! we felt at home there..
I'm not sure if we'll visit Cape Hatteras again, but if we do we'll find other accomodations without the mold..a lady at the pool also woke up at 6 am to find a big water bug or roach in her bed! UGH!!!

We used to stay at the Comfort Inn across the street from the Falcon Motel. The Falcon is about half the price of Comfort Inn and is cleaner with bigger rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a wonderful mom and pop place with everything you need. You can walk to the beach, they have a pool and everything is walking distance. If you have been paying double at the Comfort Inn across the street stop by the Falcon or Croatoan Inn as it is called now and see the rooms.

The Falcon Motel is literally a step back in time...before corporatized chains took over the beach front. It was a nice overall experience. The manager and staff were very friendly and accommodating. For example, I made a deposit over the phone when I secured my reservation but the deposit was not deducted from my bill when I checked in and paid. I had to go back to the office and they were quick and apologetic in making the appropirate refund.

The room we had was sizeable (2 double beds) and relatively comfortable for a family of 3 (2 adults and 1 toddler) and clean enough for adults...but not for toddlers. Within an hour of checking in, my daughter's bare feet were black from the carpet. We had to keep socks on her whenever we were in the room and were not comfortable allowing her to play on the floor. Fortunately, we had packed a large sleeping bag that we laid out on the floor for her to lay on.

Maybe we are germaphobes, but we found the need to clean our room when we arrived. There was something splattered and dried on the side of the nightstand and the arm rests on the chairs were sticky and turned our cleaning cloths brown.

The first night we had large, fluffy, thirsty towels like you would expect to see in a much more expensive hotel. I was really impressed. When the towels were changed out we received very thin, small, rough towels-I am glad I packed a few extra from home for my daughter.

There was a pool on the property and the recreational equipment that is mentioned on the website is an adult lawn game. I was really hoping for a swing (or something) to help our little one wind down after a day at the beach.

Would I stay at the Falcon Motel again? I guess that is the basic question...Yes I would-but only with older children. It's proximity to beaches, the ferry, the lighthouse, and a local grocery store made it a great launching point for our days out.

This was a good decent motel for the money. Rooms were a little worn, but clean, and for the area, the price was decent. You can park in front of your room and the motel provides chairs in front of the rooms--fun to spend an hour or so sitting in front. There's a good restaurant across the street and fun little miniature golf places around. It's in a pretty good location and a good value for the money.
