“Food was excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We didn't know what to expect when we pulled into the parking lot. We walked in to find a counter with a menu posted above, where you order, which caused my expectations to lower ... but then I read the menu options. "Grilled local fish with caramelized onions and garlic mayonnaise" -- hm, that's not what I expect to order at a counter! We ordered, and found a table. The food was amazing! None of us normally rave about food, but all of us couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. After lunch, we spent a few minutes talking to the chef/owner, and he said that all the sauces are freshly made, and his focus is on local foods. Therefore, the menu will expand as the season progresses.

I don't think I've ever felt strongly enough about a meal to write a review, but we are still talking about the sandwiches we had at the Shipwreck Grill.

“Wonderful expericence!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

My friend and I were visiting the Outer Banks last week during the off season, and not much was open. We took a chance on this restaurant, and was more than pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh, hot and delicious! The service was outstanding. Turns out the chef is new from Savannah!
It was Valentine's Day, so we were treated with a fresh white chocolate dipped strawberry. Also very delicious! We would highly recommend this restaurant to any traveler. Nicely decorated, very clean, reasonably priced and best of all, great food!

“good place to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Stopped in for breakfast and it was delicious so I decided to return a few days later for
lunch, which was also good. Good clam chowder, & good bbq
Order at the counter & then your food is brought to your table, which is great, no waiting for a server! Self-serve on the tea and sodas, which I also like.
Friendly & prompt service, good food, clean and charming interior, outdoor seating in a covered screened porch is also available. It is right on the main road, easy in and easy out.

NEW OWNERS, MENU, AND STAFF AS OF FEB.2ND, 2013.

The Shipwreck Grill has pulled what customers are saying, "a total 180". The food is edible, the service is friendly, and the dining room clean and decorated appropriately!

Next time you're in Buxton, definitely give this place another shot! I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed!

“Try Their Breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

As one of the few restaurants open on Hatteras Island in the off-season, The Shipwreck Grill is a good place to go when you want to have breakfast out. It's central location (Hwy 12, Buxton) & interesting beach decor both are a draw. The food & service are typical, but the portion-sizes are quite large - so come with a good appetite!
