“Comfort and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I happened upon this hotel during an emergency trip to the OBX. We first checked into a hotel that used to be a Comfort Inn and was ANYTHING except that. It was grimey. So the next morning I contacted the owner of this property assuming that an oceanfront townhouse (2 bed, 2 bath, full living room and full kitchen) would be far more expensive than we were prepared to spend. Shockingly their off-season price was $115 so it was just over $55 for my father and I to split per night. It was very comfortable and the owner was exceptionally kind to us. It was wonderful to have a place directly on the beach so we could sit in a rocker on the balcony and relax after a long day.

The cons: Hurricane Sandy took it's toll on the entire island so there were a few repairs that still needed attention such as the dirt/sand on the windows looking out to the ocean. One of the sliding glass doors must have suffered some type of break to the air pocket between the panes of glass because it was permenantly hazy and the door itself was sticking very bad and the screen was torn badly. BUT... we knew full well of the recent storm and cut them some slack. I spent .89 on a bottle of window cleaner and wiped the windows down. No big deal.

I would stay here again and again.

I can't wait to return! The best vacation we've had in a very long time. Relaxing as well as beautiful! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Lot to do and see in the area with all of the different lighthouses. We took the ferry to Ocracoke island and had a great time. We even saw some dolphins in the water. Can't wait to return next year! We visited in Sept. and loved the peacefulness of the location! Lisa C. Hanover, PA

Room Tip: We rented one of the townhouses. We had lots of room and the place was very clean and spacious! The...

This is the first time my family stayed here. We were in one of the oceanfront townhouses and this is the closest stay on the beach we have ever had. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One of us forgot our toothbrush and the staff gave us one she had gotten from her dentist appointment that day! Can't wait to go there again.

My sister and I discovered the Cape Hatteras Motel several years ago while planning our yearly sister trip. We have returned many, many times. Never to be disappointed. Great off season rates.

Buxton is a great place to stay on the Outer Banks if you are the kind of beach person who does not want to stay in a overgrown beach with too many hotels, chain restaurants, cars, traffic jams.
I do recommend that you get a room on the ocean side and unless you really can't climb stairs stay on the 2nd or 3rd floors so you can see the ocean (first floor, while convenient and no stairs, has only a view of the dunes.)
The wonderful building long porches overlooking the ocean are lined with rocking chairs and are perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine.
The office even has several shelves of paperback books for folks to borrow while they are staying.

Room Tip: If you want to see the ocean choose rooms on second or third floors but it would mean climbing lots...

My husband and I come 2 or 3 times a year and always stay at Cape Hatteras Motel. The motel is right on the beach and is always clean. If anything is needed, the office staff (Dave, Ann, Kim) are always there to assist.
