OK. Again, I am surprised at some of the reviews. ..seriously. I consider myself pretty picky. One reason service may have been an issue for some (and not making an excuse because I was not there) is that the town is JAMMED Friday and Saturday night during the Polar Express weekends.
That said, and I have a just turned three year old who decided to become extremely picky about eating during the past week. My hotel recommended this place as having applesauce for kids. We got there, and there was none. They were out. Again though it was a Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., and while I wish they would order more (since it lasts awhile), I am sure they were swamped with all the people in town for the Polar Express and the Christmas parade was the day prior.
The people there were more than helpful in trying to find something my son would eat. They even suggested a grocery store, and I almost went there, but he really, really wanted to eat at the restaurant. I hated to order a kid's meal at $6.99 when he wouldn't eat french fries, etc. Again, no problem. He decided he would eat chicken tenders, and they said he could just have an order of those. I think they are listed as an appetizer. He got a HUGE plate of chicken pieces, and he made up for all the meals he didn't eat that day. ;-) They looked pretty darn good to me too.
I really wanted trout because we were in NC, but I wasn't that hungry. The waitress said I could order the trout off the lunch menu. I ordered mountain trout blackened, baked potato, and salad for $10.50, and it was great in my opinion. Fast, fresh, inexpensive, and delicious. When I got my salad, I did wonder what my son was going to do because he had been a little antsy on this trip, and almost immediately a waitress showed up with a children's book for him to look at while he waited.
It was not crowded, so I am sure that helped with service, but I would DEFINITELY choose to go back again when we get back in town.
