In the midst of the Beautiful Great Smokey Mountains, you come across Nantahala Village Resort and Spa. Set between white water rafting companies, and crazy ole grandpa's shack down the street is what you would like to think is your beautiful safe haven. Even tho, we ended up surviving 2 nights there, I felt quite out of place. We rented out a lodge room which was set in a building with 3 other similar rooms. Our very own back deck with a private hot tub and fire place was quite the luxury overlooking the scenic landscape....or so we thought. The back door did not lock!!!!! I called the front desk at about 730 pm and was told that all of the service people had left and we would not be able to have anyone help us til the morning!!! He tried to reassure us that he had not locked his doors in 20 years in this neck of the woods, but after the weird stares we had gotten during dinner, it did not help. Granted our room was high off the ground, and it was unlikely that someone could climb up...Im from NYC. We lock our doors at all times. I also grew up in a more remote area...and my parents always locked their doors there too!!! So finally the next morning, the handyman came to save the day...and Surprise!!!....was not able to fix the door! So we went another night with an unlocked door in backwoods NC! On top of that, the front desk man said that they were completely booked and unable to give us another room. I doubt that! There were two cars on the property...and that included our own. The room was also fulllll of ladybugs, which didnt bother me too much, but was still a little yucky. Oh and the shower was very weird. You had to push a knob under the faucet spout to turn the shower on. Ive never seen anything like it. Our fireplace had its problems too.
The only upside to the resort was their restaurant. My waitress seemed to be a little forgetful, but I blame that on the fact that she was the only one working on a busy night. The food however was extremely delicious. It was the best prime rib I have ever eaten. Disappointing for such a beautiful overlook.

That being said; Our sincere apology your veranda door lock failed. As the
evening front desk attendant & maintenance staff earnestly expressed the
resorts regrets we did not have other accommodation available. We were of
course more than willing to move our guest to an up graded accommodation
or even another lodging company. We were pleased they chose instead to
stay two nights after the door lock report. Note; I'm told the back
veranda suite door is located 30 plus feet from ground level to the deck
door. We've not had a incident of entry. But the point here, as
stated several times that evening, is an apology & it is again humbly
offered. The issue with the door has been resolved. 95 % of our guests
return, including those who have service suggestions. We hope you will as
well. Thank you
