“Great Hotel for the Money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2008

My husband and I stayed at this hotel a couple weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and quiet. They had all the standard amenities you'd expect at a 3 or 4 star hotel. The complimentary breakfast included cereal, toast, muffins, bagels, bread, and juices. Even though we didn't use it, the hotel had an indoor pool. The only downside of our stay is that when we got there, we were assigned to a room on the front side of the building facing the highway. You could hear the cars passing, so we requested another room on the backside of the building. The receptionist was happy to accommodate us. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Boone.

So we made reservations in November 2007, 7 months in advance of our trip. We reserved a king size bed. We CHOSE this hotel because they had king size beds. My husband is 6 ft. 7 inches, and he NEEDS a king size bed. Well, a week before we are to arrive, they call, leave a message that there was an error, (they overbooked) and they would be switching us to 2 double beds. WHAT? We booked 7 months in advance...THEY over booked, and instead of changing the last reservation received, they picked ours (we think because our last name begins with "A". Then came the countless phone calls back and forth. They found us a hotel that had a king available, but at double the price and about 5 miles further away. We said no, we expected them to honor their reservation that was confirmed 7 months ago. Well of course we arrive, they try once again to stick us in a double bed, we tell the front desk that was totally unacceptable, demanded to see the manager...and guess what...miraculously a king bed materialized. Lucky for us we got there early enough.

And the "complimentary continental breakfast" was one of the worst I have ever seen. Not anywhere near enough tables for guests to sit (folks were sitting on the window sills and the FLOOR to eat). I don't know why they bothered...the bagels were stale, the pastries were stale, the juice was obviously watered down. The next morning we ate out at the diner down the street. Would rather pay for breakfast then eat that stuff.

  • Liked — It's location
  • Disliked — Service...oh yeah, there wasn't any.

Could not fault this hotel at all. As soon as we pulled up it looked good and the staff were so friendly on arrival. Everywhere was well maintained, the rooms were clean and very comfortable. There was also an indoor pool, which was an unexpected bonus, but we did not have time to use it, only staying the one night, as we were touring. We had
complimentary continental breakfast also, which was well laid out and perfectly adequate. At one point we had problems with our room key
and could not get back into our room. We reported it and had to wait just five minutes for the problem to be sorted. If we ever went that way again, we would certainly stay there. Very enjoyable, just a shame
it was so brief.

  • Liked — Well maintained, clean with friendly staff who cared.
  • Disliked — Nothing

Normally, I avoid chain hotels like Super 8, but it was all we could find when we wanted to book a weekend getaway at the last minute to the mountains to enjoy some Fall foliage. Super 8 exceeded my expectations. The room was spacious and adequately appointed with 2 beds, night table, clock radio, TV, desk, table, armchair, dresser, mini-fridge, microwave. Everything, including the bathroom was clean and in good working condition. You could even open the window to get fresh air. The hotel has free, high-speed wireless Internet which turned out to be useful as I had to do some work while on the road. They bake cookies in the evening for the guests. Free newspaper on weekdays, and continental breakfast daily is included. The breakfast offers toast, bagels, wafels, muffins, donuts, cold cereal, instant hot cereal, coffee, juice, and fruit. Coffee was weak for my tastes, but food plentiful. Location is on the edge of Boone, on the road towards Banner Elk, so it is a good home base for forays into the High Country.

  • Liked — Clean, spacious, wi-fi.
  • Disliked — Plastic/styrofoam utensils at breakfast; weak coffee.

We stayed at the Super 8 Motel in Boone in October to view the beautiful leaves in the area. This is a wonderful place to stay. They have friendly staff working at the front desk to greet you upon arrival. The room was exceptionally clean. We alway look over our room upon arrival and we could not find anything wrong with our room. The manager Stephanie O'Brien was working at the front desk when we arrived. She had us checked into our room in no time. They had a wonderful breakfast compared to other hotels in the area. They have a variety of things to choose from. They have a large indoor pool that the kids really enjoyed.

I would recommend this motel to all of my friends and family.

We stayed here back in July, the air conditioning in our room was broken, it was July 4, very hot, & all the front desk clerk said was.."don't you just hate when that happens! no discount no apology.. We thought we would give it one more chance, but I think we have broke the habit now..this stay our TV was broken (husband & son very upset) the shower couldn't be adjusted, you either froze or were scalded, the vent in the bathroom was also broken. We have stayed here for the past 7 years, and never had any problems when it was the "Greystone Lodge" but since Super 8 has taken over it has gone down hill. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable....Nice to have heat/AC & TV ..Just beware....they are other places nicer for just a few $ more...We will stay somewhere else next go round.......

  • Liked — clean room
  • Disliked — air condiotion broken in our room, tv broken, could not control hot/cold water in shower

My boyfriend and I stayed in Super 8 in Boone, NC right after we moved out of our apt. We stayed for three nights so my boyfriend could finish his classes, and then we moved to Mt. Airy, NC. The hotel has an indoor pool that is usually empty, so that was a nice touch. The breakfast is your typical hotel breakfast, with a toaster, bagels, muffins, waffles, etc. The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms were very nice. The Wifi doesn't work well above the first two floors, so if you have a laptop, be sure to book the first or second floor only. I could go sit in the hall on a bench to get my service from the third floor, or go to the lobby to use my computer.
A maid stole our Ipod while I was there, but there was a great plan in place to isolate her while they searched her belongings, and my Ipod was found. I was very pleased with the response I received and the quick return of our Ipod. She was promptly fired and the staff was very nice to us.
Overall, we had a great experience here. The price is very steep, but it is much better than staying at some of Boone's scary motels.
There are qutie a few construction people staying here, and I did smell marijuana and see lots of people drinking, so beware and request a floor with no construction people if you have kids.

  • Liked — Well trained management and clean rooms
  • Disliked — theiving maid
