“Highly disappointing in every way.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2009

We saw the website and were very excited about a special weekend away - Crestwood Inn is in a beautiful location. However, the location was the only positive aspect of our "weekend away".

There was a wedding at the Inn the weekend we stayed, but no one had informed us of that when we booked the reservation. The room was dirty, there was a used bottle of KY jelly under the bed. The Inn was not well staffed - we always had to wait for service (never being acknowledged while waiting!) and all staff could use a seminar in customer service. The Spa services were non existant and the hot tub was "closed for service." We'll never go back.

We were so excited to get away over Thanksgiving and do something different. We chose to stay at Crestwood based on their "misleading" website. We had gotten an email saying buy 2 nights, get 1 free so we jumped on it. We also made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner there as well.

The prime rib was good, but it took forever for our drinks orders to even be taken. It took well over 2 hours for us to finish. Our toliet would not flush and they had to come fix it 3 times. The "spa" was located in a different building and it was very cold to walk from one facility to the next. The indoor pool was freezing cold so we could not use it and the hot tub was closed for repairs. My husband got out of the steam room to find no towels. He had to dry off with paper towels. (This was supposed to be a "resort") We asked to book spa services and told there was no one working to perform them. I have to agree with the review before me....it was very understaffed!

The only good points.....the place was clean and the bed slept well. The location was peaceful. That's about all that was good.

I am not looking for perfection, but we were very sad because our stay did not meet the expectations we had based on viewing the website.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Although the location is remote and attractive, the main building felt run-down and poorly maintained - cracks in tile floors, dark scuff marks all over the walls, creaky and wobbly stairways, and so forth. The room we were first given smelled very musty and old; we were able to get changed to a less smelly but no less dingy room after some resistance from the desk clerk.

The staff were lackadaisical, unhelpful, and unprofessional. There was a wedding at the Inn the same weekend we were there, although none of the staff so much as mentioned this fact either when we made our reservations or when we checked in. (Good thing we hadn't planned to go to the hotel restaurant Saturday evening, since it was completely closed off for the wedding reception!) At the wine and cheese tasting, the bartender didn't seem to know much about the wine beyond "red" and "white", and made no effort at all to make us feel welcome at the bar. The restaurant and front desk staff mostly ignored us until we directly asked for something, and made us feel like we were imposing on their time by doing so. In general the staff seemed more like a group of bored teenagers than employees of an expensive inn.

Took my hubby for his 50th birthday. Nice romantic trip. Some extended family members also came up one night and we stayed at a cottage. Wonderful accommodations and they have two cottages that we were allowed to brings our doggies.

Location is perfect. So close to Boone, grocery store, Gamekeeper down the road (fantastic place to eat!)

Will go again and again!!

My wife and I chose Crestwood to celebrate our 25 anniversary for a 4 day getaway. We stayed the same weekend as a wedding party (see previous review comments). Also there was a grand opening of a new public lounge on the facility and it rained. The 2 special events along with the weather created quite a challenge for the staff. Due to wedding party moving inside we had no access to the DAWG bar or the dining room and we had reservations. The new lounge opened 2 hours later. The staff attempted to over service us, which was nice but did not overcome the inconvenience or akwardness of us being the only guess...not in the wedding party, or so it appeared.

The service at this hotel was horrible. When we arrived we immediately went to the wine and cheese tasting up in the lounge. Although there were only two other couples in the room, we were unable to sit at the bar for 10 minutes while a maintenance man installed a wine holder to a post. The bartender never even acknowledged us durning this time. After we sat down, it took another 10 minutes for him to even ask if we would like a drink. He was too busy cleaning behind the bar to help us. Then we had to ask the people next to us to share their cheese since we were offered nothing. There were no crackers and about 10 minutes later a woman asked if we would like anything. We asked for some crackers and it took another 10 minutes to get those and then another 10 after that to get a knife. We eventually asked the bartender if we could order some food and after a huge sigh, he said he would check with the kitchen. He came back...taking his time...and let us know that the kitchen does not open for another half hour. In no way was he apologetic, just annoyed that we had asked.

Our room that we had was clean and fine to stay in but the sheets were scratchy and the tags were at the top of the sheets, hitting you while you slept. I do not think this was worth the $240/night that we paid. Also, since there was a wedding hosted here last night, nobody bothered to direct the wedding traffic to the event parking so therefore there were no spots near the rooms to park. If you did want to park in the event parking, it was a gravel lot with no lighting. Since it was raining, this is hard to navigate in the pitch black.

My last gripe would be about the spa. We had called twice earlier in the week to make sure there were openings. Each time there were openings and they told us that we could call the same day to make an appointment. We tried calling Friday night to make an appointment for saturday morning and were told we should have called 48 hours in advance. They would try to find somebody to help us however and would call us back. We never received a call back to let us know if we could have an appointment. We tried again in the morning and they told us they would attempt to contact a few of the massage therapists and let us know. Of course, after a few meager attempts, we were told there was nothing available.

For a place that is charging over $200/night, I would expect great service and a few extra nice amenities that make this place special. Other than a great view, there was none of that. The continental breakfast had cereals/muffins/bagels and some mediocre fruit. I would expect something hot such as pancakes/waffles or eggs. There was none of that.

This place does the bare minimum and charges fees to the contrary. I would not recommend staying here to anyone.

My organization, the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, had its fourth annual membership reception at the Inn this past weekend. The staff and owners could not have been nicer, more efficient or more accommodating. The Inn is elegant and yet relaxed, and the view of the Blue Ridge and Grandfather Mountain from the patio is the perfect setting for our members and for those who lingered for dinner. The menu from the Table at Crestwood is wonderful, and after most of our event guests had gone home eighteen of us stayed for a relaxed but delicious dinner. Although I stayed at a private home, I've stayed in the cottages at the Inn and enjoyed them very much.
