“Great Location - For a Real Restaurant!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2011 via mobile

The biggest disappointment in all of Blowing Rock, Boone or Baner Elk. A great location right at an intersection. Would be great if they closed it down, remodeled and opened a genuine seafood Resaurant. The area needs one!

“So So Dinner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

We went with a group of 9 so they put us in their "other room". It looked like a storage area. Service was poor. We were told their staff had walked out that evening. I will say the food was delicious and the servers that were there were very accomodating.

I actually spit my food out in the bathroom. Steer clear!

“Surprisingly good, unpretentious food served in a shabby chic environmentt a selling point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2011

We had passed this place on any number of visits to Blowing Rock and were curious about it. We had spent this particular day hiking and decided to grab a bite before we headed back to the lodge. We were dressed very casually and were drawn here due to its lack of pretense. We were both pleasantly surprised by the variety selections available on the menu. Its not inexpensive, and that wasn't a problem for us. The food was excellent and the service was good. We liked it enough we chose to come back the second night we were in town. This time we were dressed more appropriately and could have chosen any eatery in Blowing Rock. We chose the Speckled Trout again. The waitstaff remembered us from the night before and were very gracious. Half way through the meal the summer rain came down in buckets and the canvas awning leaked a bit...so what! We did choose to eat on the outside patio both evenings, even with the threat of rain night two. We can understand some of the comments about the interior, it is not a selling point. Bottom line, if one is looking for delicious food and doesn't mind a shabby chic environment, we heartily recommend the Speckled Trout. We will be visiting them again on our next trip to the high country.

“Slightly disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

We read an article about this restaurant that made the menu appear to be better then it was. The space could use a makeover, as it was dark and dreary inside. There weren't many other customers dining at the same time we were there. Thus, we only ordered the black bean humus and went somewhere else for dinner. While the humus was good, it was simply served with crackers out of a box. Presentation was not something they took into consideration.
