“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2011

One does not expect to schlep one's own bags and do without drinking glasses at these prices. The "standard" rooms in the old building overlook a noisy highway and the breakfast was meager. The bar closed at 8:30! Better to stay at the Holiday Inn and get value for money than here and pay for architecture.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Green Park. We loved the music in the Divide Bar on Friday night. It is great to have a good bar on site. The Inn is so beautiful and full of character and everyone was so friendly and helpful. The restaurant was being remodeled so we have to come back to experience the menu! We would definitely stay here again and have recommended the Inn to friends and family.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room -- the view is beautiful.

My husband and I decided to get away from the heat in the Piedmont of NC and head for the mountains. I saw in Trip Advisor's reviews that the Green Park Inn was being renovated. We had been there for a car event 25 years ago. We made reservations and were not disappointed. When you walk in, it is as if you have stepped into a more relaxing time. If you are looking for new and shiney, you won't find it here. Historical and charming is what you get. The lobby is beautifully and tastefully done. The folks behind the front desk were very helpful, especially Mrs. Marley. She was ready to help with anything that was needed. Everyone was very friendly.
The hotel is very clean (a requirement of mine). We had a balcony off our room and enjoyed sitting on it rocking in the rocking chairs and looking out over the golf course next door and out to the mountains. They turned our beds down at night and left candy and meditation tips. The bar is lovely, and I am sure that when they open the restaurant in a couple of weeks the continental breakfast (complementary) will have more offerings (although there were enough for me). We sneaked a peek into the dining room and it is going to be lovely! If The Green Park Inn is good enough for the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, James Stewart, and Marilyn Monroe, it's good enough for us and we will definitely be back.

We only stayed one night at the Inn, but really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and large. The Inn is still undergoing renovations but they are making great headway in returning this Old Victorian Inn to it's former glory. They also offer a complimentary continental breakfast which is a very nice touch. We especially enjoyed our chat with the owner and hearing his ideas for the Inn and stories of the challenges of renovating a 130 yr. old property. A fun place with so much history!

Room Tip: Rooms are either updated room or renovated rooms.

We stayed at the Green Park Inn over the holiday weekend. I was impressed with the staff from the moment I called and made the reservations. Caroline was so helpful over the phone and answered all of my questions. We have 3 children 10, 8 and 1 and trying to find a room to accommodate our family is challenging sometimes, but she put us is a spacious room. When we checked in Meg was on duty and helped get us settled and recommended many different restaurants for dinner. We were the only guest in the inn that night and felt like we got the royal treatment. The children loved playing with UD the sweet dog and I think he enjoyed them too. Every evening we would have hot chocolate and relax either in the library or lobby. I felt like I was sitting in my own living room.
The breakfast was wonderful especially the breakfast cake. Our room was spacious enough for us and the beds were new and comfortable. The bathrooms are small, but this is an old inn so that was expected. I didn't care too much for the wallpaper, but I understand the decor. The entire staff is so gracious and friendly and genuinely have a love for this inn. I look forward to staying with them again.

The staff was very attentive. The rooms in the older section stayed nice and warm even when it was zero outside. Comfortable beds and linens. They have hired a new chef that is supposed to be great when they open the new restaurant.
