“amazing resort!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock NC. The accommodations were luxurious, the grounds were beautifully landscaped and breathtaking, the staff was extraordinarily helpful, the food was delicious and the surrounding areas charming. Whether you are looking for family oriented activities or just a place to relax, there's something for everyone. Took advantage of the spa services and had a wonderful facial, went for a dip in the huge indoor heated pool, and took a gentle yoga class. Didn't get to the horseback riding or fly fishing because of the weather but will definitely plan on them on our next visit...can't wait! So glad we found this gem!

We arrived as 2 couples for the Wine Tasting Weekend in Blowing Rock, and chose here to stay. There really isn't enough good I can say about the place. Very warm and friendly staff all around - from check in to housekeeping to the restaurant - all were very gracious and accommodating. Beautiful location. We had a balcony room overlooking the lake in front. Rooms are clean; beds are comfortable, food is DELICIOUS. Had 2 evening meals and 2 breakfasts included in our package. The location is good to go up into town - it is a short 1/2 mile walk to reach town, as our host mentioned at the front desk, but you do have to walk another mile getting off the property. All uphill going; all downhill returning - but easy enough. Definitely would come here again to get away. I liked the place so much I even bought a souvenir shirt, which I never do. Highly, Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view overlooking the lake.

I took my team for a 3 day leadership retreat. The staff did everything possible to make my 25 member group at home. The facility was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with each room sporting an incredibly decorated live tree. The meeting rooms were set up as I had specified and when I requested a last minute change, they accommodated quickly with a smile. The food during the meeting was very good. The front desk provided a shuttle to a locale restaurant for the entire group. My husband joined me for the weekend where we enjoyed participating in the Chetola fly fishing school. FANTASTIC! Our guide Luke was great. Caught a ton of trout. One of our most memorable fishing days.

Chetola delivers the total mountain lodge experience--hiking trails, fully stocked pond, scenic vistas--without any daredevil driving required up narrow roads. It's close to everything, yet secluded, and the property is private (gate house security), well kept, and staffed by eager-to-please young staffers. The only downsides were related to personal factors that may or may not be issues to other travelers. First, the property, while technically ADA-compliant, isn't particularly accessible for people with mobility issues. Getting from our disability accessible room to the dining room took a circuitous route down two separate elevators, and then outside to an exterior entrance door. Again, nothing I couldn't handle pushing my husband's chair, but more senior couples may want to be aware of the challenges. Our second issue had to do with thin walls between guest rooms in the Chetola Lodge. Our neighbors were apparently hosting guests until 4 a.m., and our request (made only after 2 a.m.) to quiet down was met by even louder hoots and hollers, as well as repeated knocking on our door. Again, we chose not to escalate things by calling the front desk or emerging from our rooms, and the situation took care of itself at 4 a.m. when we could hear our neighbors bidding their guests goodbye. It's unlikely this situation would repeat with other guests on other nights, but it may be a good idea to bring earplugs just in case. Despite these two hiccups, we greatly enjoyed our weekend snoozing in lounge chairs on the deck outside the indoor pool, and being spoiled by the friendly waitstaff at the bountiful breakfast buffet in Timberlake's. Walk the trail around the pond to see the waterfall and the swans, stake out an Adirondack chair by the fire pit outside the lodge at night to stargaze, and play tourist by actually going to the Blowing Rock. Sure it costs $6 ($4 for people in wheelchairs), but the views are amazing, and you can't come all this way and not sit up on the namesake rock, eh?

Room Tip: Spring for the lakeside rooms in the Chetola Lodge. More expensive than the advertised Groupon or LI...

We stayed at the Chetola this pass week for 3 days. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. Check-in was fast and easy, the condo we rented was way better than we thought it was. The owners kept the place up. The condo was spotless when we got there. The employees were very friendly and the security people would even stop and speak to you while they were driving around, we felt very safe there. I will always stay there everytime we go to Boone or Blowing Rock! They even have a lake you can get some fishing in if you like. One of the top places to stay! #1

Room Tip: we did not use room service but it is offered!

We stayed at the Chetola Resort Easter weekend and had a wonderful experience! The resort itself is tucked away on a large piece of property with a beautiful lake surrounded by walking trails and wildlife all about. It is also very conveniently located to downtown Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Tanger outlets and more! The property itself is a little dated but is extremely clean and well maintained. Our room was extremely spacious with all of the things you would expect in a nicer hotel room...soft linens, a heat light in the bathroom, microwave, desk, free wi-fi, etc. The TV reception wasn't the best...but we weren't in our room long enough to watch it so it didn't matter. The resort has a very large indoor pool that stayed open from 9 in the morning to 10 at night. Fresh, warm towels were provided and pool toys were in abundance. They also have a sauna, hot tub and two ping pong tables. My kids (two tweens) were entertained for hours each day. If they would have had it their way, they would have never left the property.

Where this hotel sets itself apart from the others we have stayed at recently is the customer service! Almost every person we encountered that works there seemed genuinely happy to be there while helping others!! We were always greeted warmly from the housekeepers to the waitresses and that made us feel like family rather than strangers. One employee in particular, Jennifer, made a point to let me and my husband know how kind my kids were at breakfast one morning. She was so warm and friendly and great with everyone she encountered. We saw her the next day at breakfast and even though she wasn't our waitress...she made a point to let us know that she would be willing to assist us with anything we needed the rest of our stay. We truly enjoyed talking to her and missed her when we left! That was just one example of the attitude this resort exudes. We would definitely stay here again.
