“Perfect Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2007

"Perfect getaway" may sound like a cliche, but this place is truly wonderful. My boyfriend brought me here as part of a surprise trip to Asheville, and we could not have been happier with our stay. The rooms are luxurious yet cozy and the decor elegant and unique. The photos simply cannot do justice to the indoor design and the mountain views. Aesthetics aside, breakfast was unbelievably good, and Carolyn and Dave were such generous, friendly and helpful hosts! I would come back to Arbor House in a flash and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone thinking about visiting the area. Plan to stay as long as you can because you won't want to leave once you've arrived!

Dave and Carolyn (owners) are among the most friendly and gracious people you will ever meet. The Arbor house has a lovely exterior with large and spacious rooms that are quite tastefully decorated: appealing to both contemporary and traditional styles. Caroloyn's art background is evident in the design and decor of this beautiful B & B.

Set on the banks of a lovely pond and walkway, the Arbor house provides an exceptionally picturesque view of the mountains. Close to some fun shopping, and at the finish line of the Black Mountain Marathon, we couldn't have asked for more.

Thank you for the personalized signs and your Marathon finish line support Carolyn. We will be sure to stay with you again. Maybe next time we will do the Mt. Mitchell Challenge. A couple of wheelchairs might be in order.

The reviews are all true! My wife and I along with friends stayed at the Arbor House and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the area. The host/hostess, Dave and Carolyn are wonderful people. The facilily has a great view of Lake Tomahawk with the Black Mtns. in the background. All of this is in full view from the back deck and the dining area. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable and each comes with a large bathroom. The commons areas are warm and inviting. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone staying in the area. I know if we return, and I expect we will someday, we will stay at Arbor House.

My husband and I had the great fortune of staying at the Arbor House last weekend (Nov 17-20th). He had just picked it off the internet because it advertized that it was a completely non-smoking facility. This was important, as I have asthma and other allergies. We contacted Carolyn and Dave in advance, and they could not have been more gracious and accommodating.

We were absolutely delighted with Arbor House. This is not your usual old fashioned, antiquey, dark, flowery B&B. It is light and airy and welcoming. Carolyn is an artist, and it clearly shows in the beautifully appointed rooms. There are 4 guest rooms and each one has a different theme, combining different materials and woods in an appealing blend. Each room has a spacious tile bathroom. The breakfast area looks out onto Lake Tomahawk, and has a fireplace.

But best of all were Carolyn and Dave's warm hospitality. We felt like friends rather than customers. They steered us to the best restaurants and things to do. For dinner, we highly recommend the Cellar Door and Red Rocker Inn.

We have already made reservations for next fall. We think that is the best recommendation of all!

All the reviews of Arbor House are accurate. My husband and I stayed at Arbor House last week on the absolute insistence of our daughter--so it appeals to those in the 20's as well as the 50's. We are not typical B & B people--like privacy and modern accommodations--and Arbor House offers both the new and clean features of a house built in the last 2 years, and as much privacy as one could ask. The Johnson's are extremely pleasant hosts. The breakfasts are very lovely and filling. The site is great. And Black Mountain is a nice small town--we much preferred it to Asheville. We highly recomend Arbor House, and hope to return.

This is an absolutely lovely B & B in a wonderful location. All 4 rooms are beautifully decorated, have lots of windows and huge bathrooms. The public areas include a pretty livingroom and a wonderful deck and gardens that are right beside the lake (.5 mile walk around on a lit, wide pathway) and have a wonderful view of the mountains behind. It is an easy walk into town, and only a few minutes drive to Montreat, where there is a well-maintained system of beautiful hiking trails (better than what is available on the Parkway in this area). You can't go wrong with a stay here, and will want to return.

My husband and I just returned from a fantastic visit to the Arbor House at Black Mountain, a beautiful B&B. My expectations were high, and all were exceeded. The Arbor House provided a wonderful mix of luxury and an unpretentious homeiness. The house is a warm and inviting craftsman-style with plenty of space and charm. We stayed in the Lookout Room, which is the best room in the house. I saw all of the rooms and they were all beautiful - tastefully decorated, newly furnished, and immaculately clean. The Lookout Room is located on the second floor of the house and overlooks Lake Tomahawk and the Blue Ridge Mountains with a small private balcony. The King-sized bed had luxury linens and a plush mattress, and the bathroom included a two-person whirlpool tub and skylights. What we loved were the special touches - a fan in the room for white noise, bath salts, bathrobes, guest refrigerator stocked with complimentary sodas and water, etc. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Baked French toast, Belgian waffles, breakfast casseroles and fresh fruit...and it was served between 8-10 AM, so we received our choice of times. The location was also a big plus - the views felt like you were away from it all, but we could also walk into the town of Black Mountain for dinner and shopping. Go and have a great time!
