“My favorite brewery in Asheville (almost)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Pisgah Brewery is just outside Asheville in a small town called Black Mountain. We were there early (mid-afternoon) and enjoyed tasting the different beers. I think it would be a lot of fun in the evening when they have music. It seems like a great venue.

“Good outside music venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Went Memorial wkend for bluegrass band. Great little venue, good beer. Food trucks there had a variety of food in $5-8 range. I'd go again . Very eclectic group there. . . Of course, it is Asheville vicinity!
My rating below are not intended to be low, but this is a brewery in a warehouse area.

“Not as good as it once was”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

This was our second vist to Pisgah Brewing Company. Our first visit was on the Brews Cruise over a year ago and due to so many samples that day, we decided to purchase a growler of Blueberry Wheat. Then, when we went back on May 11, we learned they stopped making our favorite beer. We asked if we could purchase a flight or a sampler to maybe find another favorite. The bartender was willing to give us a very small sample one time but we had to purchase 12 oz. glasses to try any others. We found a few other breweries that weekend that nor=t only have samplers but alos snak=cks or food, music and friendlier bartenders! Needless to say, Pisgah is no longer worth going out to Black Mountain for.

“They're Baaa-ack!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

We've been going to Pisgah Brewing for years. The group that met there every Thursday night was so faithful, we called ourselves The Pisgah-palians. Then, about two years ago, that changed. Something went awry, and I couldn't put my finger on it; but the beer quality wasn't there. Popular taps ran out, and questions as to why were met with inadequate responses. Even folks who faithfully drank Pisgah brews in restaurants, (but did not frequent the pub) commented that something was wrong. Their favorite taps would be out at the usual venues, and again, questions to management were met with confusing responses. So, we quit going. I was sad.

About a month ago, however, I heard there had been an "upset" in management. One of the founders of Pisgah returned to take back over the day-to-day ops. Apparently, this person had been out of the picture for about two years, (coincidence?) and suddenly, everything started to make sense. We gave it a few weeks to see if there was a difference, and tonight (3/21/13), we decided to give them another chance.

It was like night and day. The energy was more positive. The venue itself was friendlier. There was more room, and you could actually hear each other talk! And the beer? OH MY! I had the Cosmos - one of Dave's special recipes. It was incredible...exactly as the website described. My husband had the Doppel and then the Hellbender. Those were also outstanding ... up to the standards that make Pisgah Brewing one of the best breweries in the STATE!

Next to the Weeping Radish in the OBX (whose owner along with The Biltmore Estate fought to make the Beer Friendly State of NC possible,) Pisgah is the flagship of NC Breweries and Pubs. They were the brewery that, in my opinion, all breweries should emulate. It disturbed me to see them fall from grace, but thanks to Dave, they are back on top! It seems that Thomas Wolfe was wrong. You really CAN go home again!
