“Excellent little museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

This is a really great museum. They have a diverse and informative set of exhibits that do change from time to time to keep things interesting. There is enough here to entertain both the young and the old, from pirates to fishing to the coastal rescue services and lots more. If you're going to be in the area, do not miss this place. The museum and the surrounding town are easily worth a half- to full-day stop. You won't be disappointed.

“A cool little free museum.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I didn't know what to expect when I came here, but was pleasantly surprised. This is a great, educational place. It is quite small, but they use the space very well. The highlights include a diving chamber that we were able to bet inside of, a young sperm whale skeleton, and of course the artifacts taken from Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard's flagship). They also have some great book and other items in the gift shop. They have some fun activities for young kids too. This place is definitely worth a visit, and the price can't be beat (it's free).

“Free, good, and educational”

Well maintained exhibits that change from time to time. Extensive interactive exhibit area on pirates that both adults and kids will enjoy. Don't miss the watercraft center across the street.

“Very Interesting and Unique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

First let me mention it is free! They should charge admission for the place because it is very interesting and informative. The exhibits showing the different kinds of boats and their users were very interesting as well as the history of their use in the area. Across the street they actually build smaller boats and you can see them at work using the tools. The museum also has a very large collection of maritime tools, ship models, etc. My brother in law really wanted the wooden chris craft style boat that was beautiful. Anything you want to know about boats from types to construction to motors, etc is in this place. Fascinating and as I said earlier "free". Wife left a donation which they do accept and encourage without pressure (there is a place to put some money on the way out of the place). So give them something if you go.

“loved, loved, loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

My family really enjoyed this. Lots of informative and fun history. We especially loved the pirate ship stuff from the Queen Anne's Revenge. This museum is awesome and we couldn't believe it was free!!! that's right, FREE!!! We loved it, it was a lot of fun. Both my kids enjoyed it very much (teenagers are usually hard to please) and my husband and I liked it too. Don't miss this while in NC.
